Hi all,

I have been trying to use the search function but i still have no luck on this question. my gf has been working in Beijing for 4-5 years now but she is a permanent resident in shenzhen. I met her this year and we are planning to marry next year. If i were to sponsor her as a spouse, is the application/interview going to take place in HK?

Thanks in advance.

She'll probably have to go through the HK office because her Hukuo is from Guangdong province.

The visa office is determined by where her Houko is registered to. I suspect like Fencesitter that she did not switch it to Beijing as it is difficult to change a Houku. If you know that you will marry and apply, try if it is possible to change the Houku to Beijing. The processing times there are much shorter. Document everything in detail, collect evidence of your relationship, photos, correspondence, Plane tickets, hotel receipts, etc. that can proof your times together and you will have a easy way to proof that your relationship and love is genuine.

Yes, HK, as the South Eastern provinces are processed through HK now. If she switches her Houku to Beijing, then she can go through there (5 mo vs. 19 mo on 80% of the cases). However, for straightforward cases, the HK may be very fast as well. My wife told me of some cases where the whole processing time was 6-7 months, including Stage 1. And, again, gather as much evidence as possible.

Thanks guy for all your input.

If you don't mind me ask the 2nd question... Is interview mandatory for every case? Or there are cases where interview is not required? Thanks again

Interviews are the exception, not the rule. If you have a child together, zero chance for an interview. If you have provided ample proof of your relationship, zero chance for an interview. Basically, if you have provided quality proof, no interview.

A child is the best proof that you could possibly have...
