Hi there,

Has anyone hired a lawyer to help them through the process? If so, who did you hire? And how much is it likely to cost me?

Thanks

Experts and seniors here are father of all the lawyers. I dont think the ppl who hire lawyers come here, and ppl who r here wont ever hire a lawyer unless ur case is a real challenge.

If u like anyone and anyone's advise, you owe them a Tim Hortons :-\

Yes, you don't need a lawyer unless you have some complication in your application. Absolute waste of money.

If you are unsure of your application, then you can do something what I have done. I prepared all application by myself and then when it was ready I scheduled 1 hour consultation with a lawyer , so he could double check my application and discuss any parts that I wasn't 100% sure if they are correct. It helps to save money and you still have someone specialiazed to see over your application.

If you are cash rich and time poor then pay someone to fill a form for you. If you are prepared to do it yourself then you dont need someone.

Lawyers will keep access to your profile and you may not have any control over it. Watch out for that.

As others said, no need for a lawyer.

The lawyer, who I met he is taking 5000$ for application for one person.

The thing is that it's you still, who need to fill out the whole application. They are only checking it for mistakes and completeness, and they are the contact for cic inqueries. That's all.

If your case is really difficult then maybe it would be ok to meet to consult your options but I wouldn't suggest to hire them for whole process.

On other hand you can find on this forum people, who hired lawyer and they were in troubles because of mistake made by lawyer.

If you are in Canada, then try to find agencies, who work with government and help immigrants for no fee. For example CCIS in Calgary area. Maybe this would be an option for you.

The process might look scary but every time you will bump into difficulties I can assure you, you will find an answer on this forum.

When I was applying, I contacted a lawyer as well. He asked me $3000. I went online to see if I can really do it myself, since I too just like you, had doubts. And luckily came across this forum. After spending a little time here, I found out that this forum is wayyyy better than anything a lawyer has to offer. People here are here to help you with any query you have. If you have enough time, scroll through some posts here and you'll find abundance of diverse questions that'll really help you fill out your application.
