Hi kyle. you must ask the agency what work they are referring to. there are three kinds of work permits. 1) On campus 2) Off Campus and 3) Co-op and internship programs.

1)under off campus you really need to have an institutions listed by the CIC as accredited school where off campus work is allowed.
2) On campus - as a rule a work permit must be needed. but it is a practice in Canada that schools, not listed in the accreditation, provide on campus work without the work permit. The reason behind is the work provided by the school comes from a company owned by the school, thus no need for the school to get work permit.
3) Co-op and internship program - definitely no need for a work permit since the work is an OJT type.

I hope this can help

hi kyle i understand how feel right now but i stongly suggest that you clarify things that confuses you with your agency rather than posting your predicaments in a forum like this. Though advices from other people can be of help, it might also lead the situation into the wrong place. Reading from the earlier posts there seems to be misunderstanding on study - work thing... mine4ever is right and in addition to what s/he said, if you are enrolled to a co-op program the institution doesn't have to be included in the list of accredited schools that offers off-campus work. Hope things turn out well for you :)

kyle i talked yesterday on our agency about the student visa, the representative said that try other school like sprott-shaw community college or other country that is available for student visa. Im thinking of new zealand because of a lot have given a visa, but i have relatives in Canada that will help us if we already there especially in Vancouver. But i just want to wait what will be happening after opening again of FSW in January before i will decide. i hope there will be no limit of visa and our profession are is still available.

i was told by my representative that our application has high chance of refusal.
and that we are going to take the risk if we still want to pursue the STUDENT VISA APPLICATION...

please help... i need some advice here. me and my partner can't decide...

my common law partner has just received his appointment letter / offer letter from VANCOUVER INSTITUTE OF PROFESSIONAL MANAGEMENT
for a 2 year course in POST DIPLOMA IN HEALTH CARE MANAGEMENT.
this morning, our representative called up and said they are already ready to lodge our papers in the canadian embassy.
And we are requested to pay the tuition fee in that school.

We are hoping so much that I can join my partner with a DEPENDENT VISA.
they notified us earlier that if i get approved with the DEPENDENT VISA - i wont be able to work or have any position in a company. instead, it will only be my partner who can work for us.
the thing is, im 5 MONTHS PREGNANT NOW, AND 4MONTHS FROM NOW I'LL BE GIVING BIRTH TO OUR FIRST CHILD.

We have enough funds, credible documents, and properties under our name.
But we are a bit discouraged because agency said, we have less hope for this because we might be questioned of our intention in moving to canada... i don't want to be separated with my common law partner... especially that i'm pregnant, if we go there, i have a lot of relatives who can support us in our needs.

DO WE HAVE TO TAKE THE RISK? IS THERE REALLY A GREAT CHANCE OF REJECTION? OR IS THERE ANY HOPE TO THIS APPLICATION?
We really need an expert advice on this... by the way, the school has also offered a WORK to my common law partner... PART TIME 20HOURS/WEEK for first 6months then 40HRS/WEEK for next remaining months of his stay there.

i appreciate if you can share your ideas. thank you so much...
Kyle, I think you are actually not looking to shift permanently, and even if you are, you seem to be able to present a legitimate looking request. I think you guys will get the visa but if that is not the case, I think you'll easily be able to get it by contesting the embassy's reply to your case. I know this sounds kind of a head-ache but it's actually not and I have seen this being successful in two of my friends' cases. I hope you get it the first time though. I am a bit worried about the institute your are talking about. You say it is a two year course. Then the college is offering a job of 40 hours a week after 6 months. The thing is this institute is not one of the participating institutes for Off-campus work permit, then how can anyone studying here work for 40 hours a week. Check out the list on CIC website to be sure. I just did and also I have lived in Vancouver for a year and a half and have never heard of this place. Also, I know this for sure that you won't be able to get a PGWP after studying here. Please be informed. These things make a difference.

Good luck and congrats for the child!!

thank you so much for all of the advise.
its just that i didn't had the chance to communicate and discuss this well to our representative.
time was so short, and i reacted that fast.
i might have missed important information that could somehow have helped me in deciding before i posted here in our forum.

the inputs were all helpful, and it did direct me to more facts that i haven't thought would be that important to our future plans.

what if we are offered CO-OP AND INTERNSHIP PROGRAM? what is that about? can my partner work full time for this? i know it doesnt require WORK PERMIT already, but after the 2yr course, can my partner apply for PGWP? im thinking if im going to take the advice of my representative of letting my partner go first, without us... would there be any possibilities of following him to canada in the future? based on the co-op program and VIPM?

jen, its really hard to decide now. because if we shift to student visa, and try our luck again for january FSW... we will have to pay for another service fee which is very costly. i can't afford that shift. and considering other province in canada or other countries is not our option. it would be hard for us to adjust because our support group is in vancouver. sometimes i feel so hopeless now...

kyle you should ask the agency about your plans, and say all your ideas. but if you decide to apply again for fsw, ask the agency that if you can not pay again another service fee because the changes of student visa dependent work permit is not your fault, also they promise that in the 1st place and thats why you apply student visa. try to talk to them, and settle all may be it will make a good plan to you.

good day. you should try to talk with your representative of agency if you are to pay again new fees in shifting from FSW to student. That would be unfair if you are required to pay new fees ti them. Though I guess you have contracts with them. It would be best if you first try to talk with them and lay down your plans to them. It seems to me that you are not a genuine student visa applicant and all you want is to work. then this will be a problem since the visa you intend to apply is for student visa. might as well make up your mind by telling them your concern.

Good luck.....

our representatives understand exactly how we feel. they are helping us move our papers while FSW is still not open, but it has a risk connected to it
and yes, we are considering the student visa as an option of migrating in canada...
who would want to go to canada SOLELY AS A STUDENT and no work at all for source of funds, that would be hard and challenging... that's why we are looking for options that can give both at the same time, a canadian study and a canadian experience... then eventually a permanent resident card.

hi jen, it was explained to me that in our contracts. once we shift to student visa, the FSW contract will be forfeited, and should we want to go back and let FSW be processed by them, they said we have to pay again for another service fee. so when we decide, there's no turning back. we have to let go of one. what's your final decision jen? wait for FSW? im sched for an appointment and will discuss with them. hope things will work out fine

they have been so kind and helpful. it was a big mistake doubting of things before.
things were explained, and i know things will work out fine.

they have high reputations really.
i have to be sorry for my predicaments. i shouldn't react that soon.
now i know we are on the right path, thru their help.

(im looking for the button on how to remove my previous post, can you help me please?)

thank you
