Visa officers are humans. It does raise questions. If you have a visa already then it all depends on how convincing your travel plans are at POE. If you are applying for a visa, then it does raise questions. As i said it all depends on your travel plans.

Officers may ask how you are going to support yourself for several months prior to conference and want to see funds. Aren’t you claiming asylum?

Not really. Just wanted to move early to enjoy the weather which is not winter. I know of someone who can host.
