Hi guys and girls
Me and my partner have put in a inland app for spousal sponsorship and open work permit back in may 2015 and have not got any reply from cic yet only a note from them saying that they got our app and that came like 4 month after we sent it in to them
Now we got robbed a few month ago and have no money left and still waiting on the work permit and every week I ring the call center and every week they tell me that its under review and nothing else
I asked them if there was something missing and they told me everything was fine and that they are working on our file but to this day there is no action at all
Now my partner is working full time but does not make the money it takes to pay all the bills and my parents are running out of cash too since they have been sending money to keep us going
Is there anything I can do to find out why it is taking so long
My last work permit took 1 month to get and no drama but this one is way too long I feel
and I have been here in Canada since 2012 and living with her all this time so its no fake app in any way
Also the option for me to go home for a while to make some money is not open to us with this type of app what am I to do ???? plz help

Regards
Andrew

Did you have a valid status when you sent the open work permit application with your permanent resident application?

So sorry to hear about your story.

If you have proof that CIC did in fact receive your Inland application and OWP in May, prior to your status expiring (and you paid the full amount of $255 for the OWP), you should have received your OWP at least 3 months ago.

However...you also said that CIC sent you a note stating that your application was received, 4 months after it was sent. Was the AOR date in that note a date prior to when your WP expired?

Good luck!

Im not sure, maybe pongo knows. But I think you can contact your member of parliament about the issue, and CIC has to respond to them within 10 days. like I said not sure maybe someone else can chime in, or you could try to submit a case specific enquiry and ask why its been delayed so much and CIC responds in 30 days

Since your AOR date was July 24, 2015...something's wrong.

Either CIC has lost your OWP...

or you didn't pay the full amount...

Or...they think that you don't qualify, because they think you're out of status.

Definitely contact your local MP and ask for his/her help. They have a direct line to CIC and should be able to figure out what's happening with the OWP.

My lawyer has sent in a request but had no reply on it yet either so we are at a loss to what they are doing with this file
On a diff note we got a letter from social service last week telling us that my partner has $ 3500.00 dollars owing to them still from some overpayment way back in 2004 I am not sure if that makes any diff to our app or not but we made a payment the very same day and the lady said that it would clear up after ten days or so and we should be fine
My partner has not had any social service help for a long time 6 years + at least and we did not know about this money owing to them until last week

Now that could explain why you haven't received your OWP yet.

If CIC is aware of this delinquent account with Social Services, they may be waiting until they know that it's been paid in full before proceeding with your file.

I hope it doesn't lead to your sponsor being denied.

Good luck!

We did not know about this money owing to them and only found out about it last week and was told we had to make a min payment for it to clear of the Canada revenue site they did not ask for full payment either the min payment per month is $15.00 dollars we paid Them $60.00 dollars for the first payment I hope we don't have to come up with the full payment since we have no funds left after getting robbed as it is and it would be really unfair to me since I was not even here 12 years ago when all this happened and its hard to pay such lump sums when not working

The other point also is we made 2 tax returns in the last 2 years and they never took that money then either so its kind of strange we got a refund over 19k from them and if there was money owing they take it from that as a rule but never did so again I am at a loss how something from 12 years ago can just pop up now when you put in an application like this

Well, it's impossible say for sure, but if this is a form of social assistance that involves your sponsor, it could explain the delay.

I would order your notes ASAP to see what's going on. If you are truly owing social assistance, CIC may halt processing until the entire amount is repaid. You need to see what your case notes say. Good luck.

How do you order notes and how long does this take ?
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/atip/requests-atip.asp

It costs $5 and takes at least 30 days.

I'm thinking that CIC inquired about your sponsor which triggered the request for the $3500. At least this means they are looking at it. That would explain the sponsor delay, but not the work permit delay.

If they received your application in May, what do you mean by they only got it "4 months after (you) sent it in to them"?
