Hi, I am a German citizen, come to Canada as a visitor for 6 month. My stay will expire on April 2nd, but I have applid for extension in late Feb. The CIC website shows that I can not get the result before April 2nd.

My question is that do I need go back on April 2 if i haven`t receive the respond from the government? Some of my friends tell me that once I submit the application, I can wait for the result in Canada as long as the processing time is needed.

Is there any place i can seek advice from for my situation?

Many thanks

You can stay till the time they don't decide. It should 90% get approved. Only that if it gets rejected you may have to leave as soon as possible and keep the refusal letter copy with you as when you apply again they may ask you why you overstayed, so you can show that you applied for extension and it got rejected.

But otherwise you can stay if your extension is in process. I have had friends who had to wait for 4 months to get the result. And they have travelled back to canada and no issues at all.

Hi

You will have Implied Status allowing you to stay while you wait for a decision on the extension app.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/temp/visa/validity/implied.asp

A temporary resident must apply to extend their period of authorized stay before it ends. If they have done so, their period of authorized stay as a temporary resident is extended by law until a decision is made [R183(5)]. Such a person is considered to have implied status as a temporary resident during that period.
