Hepatitis C and Canadian Immigration

Dear all,

I received medical request in December 2021 and now i have been asked for further medical tests.
I was HCV Antibodies positive but HCV PCR negative with Zero viral load. I inform physician during medical exam and provided my latest and previous reports covering 10 years.
Now on 01-March-2022 they send email for further tests and i have to report to the medical center on mentioned date. I called to the medical center and they informed i have to undergo for LFTs and a consultation with gastroenterologist.
In my reports ALT slightly raised to 53 and notmal level is 45, Doctor says its due to fatty liver nothing else.
What will happen in consultation? and why they are not doing PCR? have anyone experienced this situation?

For all the medical test they always conduct test using "Elisa" method not PCR, it will always be positive. Pls inform us after your consultation?

Initially they scheduled blood test "Liver Function Test" and once they get the results from their lab than they will book appointment with Gastroenterologist.
I did my abdominal scan in a private clinic last day and everything was normal just some fatty liver with no abnormalities. My ALT(SGPT) raised up to 53 that is just 8 points above the normal level, could be due to fatty liver.

Kindly update me on your medical.

My husband had hepa B and was treated 10 years ago.
We dont know if it is back or not.
We are worried that it will affect the medical.

I am eagerly waiting for your replies to get some insight.

Any British Columbian suffering from chronic hepatitis C, will now have access to drug treatment regardless of severity, the provincial Ministry of Health announced Tuesday.

Its for inland applicants but outland applicants are stuck in medical examinations. Even we don't need any treatment as HCV RNA test is negative even than they are taking so many further tests and wasting time by again and again tests and consultations.

Finally issue resolved, they did fresh LFT, PCR, ULTRASOUND and gastroenterologist draft a certificate that PCR is negative and raised ALT is due to fatty liver that is not a serious concern.

Congratulations , it means if PCR is non detected then no issue.

I asked to gastroenterologist and medical center as well, even if PCR is positive its not the issue. They just have to keep the correct records.

Hepatitis C is not over the excessive demand and do not create any reason of inadmissibility.

Yes it can. The cost of hep C treatment is extremely expensive or in sone hep C cases the liver is so damaged that a transplant will be necessary.

Dear, HCV is a treatable disease and cost 60,000 CAD t0 68,000 CAD for full treatment of 12 weeks only. Excessive demand threshold limit is 120,285 CAD covering 5 years. Recently 2 friends of mine with active HCV disease got PPR.
Liver transplant is applicable in condition of last stage of liver cirrhosis.
