Hello,

Possibly the worst case you all will read but I need your guidance. Kindly bear with me!

I came to Canada in 2016 on study permit. I finished my studies in fall 2019 and applied for pgwp. I knew in my heart that I will not be given pgwp as I studied part time in summer semesters. Still I applied & received refusal in Feb 2019. I went to lawyers to discuss my situation and to seek some help but all they could advise was to either study more, apply for lmia or leave. I have made mistakes by taking part time studies in summer but I had no idea at that point that this will result in refusal. Damages are done. Now I want some advice.

I met one lawyer who is willing to give me lmia but asking for $35K but I don't have that much money. The thing is is this a right decision to get lmia? I have passed with a 2 years diploma in canada and studied till grade 12 back home. Will you guys advise this path for me or not? And can any gentle soul explain me if I can qualify/apply for PR with lmia?

Tons of thanks in advance!

It's illegal to charge money for an LMIA. Good chance it's a scam or there is something else wrong with what's being offered. Stay far away from that option.

@scylla every lawyer I have been to is giving lmia but asking for heck lot of money ($35k - $40k). What are my options other than this? They are saying I will have have to apply for LMIA even if I get pgwp after studying for other 2 years?

Again, its illegal to charge money like this for an LMIA. Again, I would stay very far away from this. Obviously your choice.

Why would you need an LMIA if you already have an open work permit? You are panicked now so be careful of getting taken advantage off, read the rules for these things online, everything is available.

Would also encourage you to report these lawyers especially if you have corresponding e in writing. They are committing immigration fraud and if you participate you also risk not getting PR at the end of this. Unfortunately there is a network of lawyers and business owners participating in immigration fraud. It is well known and I hope the authorities are at least working towards charging these people.
