Hey guys

I am in Canada at the moment and pursuing a 1 year PG Hospitality course.

I realize that I would be only getting a 1 year post study work permit. The Niagara college and some colleges in Toronto offer a GAS(General arts and science) course which is for 4-5 months. With your credits getting transferred, it entitles you to get a 2 year diploma in GAS.

Now my question is, After doing this course will I get a 3 years work permit???? Or would/could the CIC look into the "down gradation" of my level of study and give me only 1 year PSW???

Those who know the answer kindly reply.....it would be much appreciated.

Hey am84pm,

Thanks a ton for your reply!!

Just curious, why would you say I would only get a one year PSW??

Doesnt CIC take it as I have done a 2 year GAS program = 3 years work permit?

Just want to get things clear in my mind before I make the decision of taking up the course.....

what is your first visa total duration?

if you study 1 year and if your visa gona expire in 15 months then if you renew your visa for 4-5 months course you will be given visitor visa only for 6 months so total duration will be less than 2 years.............

if you study 1 year+ 6 months then total duration will be 18 months then what will you do rest of 6 months because there should not be gap in your studies ..............

Hello heartbeat,

Thanks for your reply

See, The GAS course is basically 2 years ok.....But because I have done a graduation and post graduation in hospitality my credits are getting transferred for all the subjects of the first 1.5 years which leaves me with 1 sem which I will need to appear.

And + my certificate would be showing 2 years of GAS program. So would that give me 3 years work permit?????

There would be a gap of only 2 months as I would finish my PG in July and in sept I would be taking up this course

That was good information!!

Thank you

But again it doesn't actually say that "downgrading" from a post graduation to a undergrad degree would stop me from getting a 3 years work permit .....right

So since it doesnt mention anything I was and I am in a dilemma...

I believe it counts the length of time you spent in canada AND the length of the course.

If you are asking that if you transfer previous credits (from India) and get admission into a 2 year program but with advanced standing, you only have to go to school for a semester or two and you are finished, i dont think they will give you a 3 year WP if the course is 2 years long from start to finish.

I could be wrong but check with CIC

there is one thing alarming if you will apply for renewal for visa for the course that is below of PG, this will be doubt for visa officer and may result totally negative for u............
