HELP...work visa refused - can PR still be approved?

please help - my work visa was refused due to not enough time left on my passport.
Can my PR still be approved? or do you have to be on an active work visa to get the PR approved?

They won't give you any visa if your passport is gonna expire soon, including PR. Your PR application will be on hold so you get a another passport. If your passport expire, your work permit will expire too and you can't work. If you lose your job and are a provincial nominee, the conditions of your PR applications might be to have a job so if you lose it, your PR will be rejected.

Thanks for the reply.. my passport will expire in mid August. so I think that is why the one year work visa was refused. My company are holding my job so i still have it, I just can't work right now as the work visa was refused. I'm still waiting for a decision on my PR application. I read somewhere that for PR to be issued, you need 6 months on your passport - so in that case, they might end up putting it on hold until I submit a new passport.
