Help with renouncing PR through eTA application

Hi! I lived in Ottawa with my parents in 2002, with a PR visa. However, in 2003, we moved back to Brazil. In 2015, I moved to Ottawa again with my mother, but with a student visa.

Now, on July 27, 2024, I applied for an eTA, because I have an American tourist visa and I am going to visit Canada. I have my plane tickets bought to Oct 1st, 2024, so I figured applying to the eTA with 2 months in advance was enough.

After applying online through the IRCC website, I was asked to voluntarily renounce my PR from 2002, which I thought I didn't even have anymore, since I have already gone back to Canada in 2015. I sent the documents asked through the application (passport and US visa scanned, digital photo, IMM 5782 form), but the photo was not accepted. I tried submitting it again 4 times, but none of them were accepted.

My application for the eTA was withdrawn and I decided to try and apply again, using only professionally taken photos. However, on August 13, I was asked to resend my digital photo because it was again not accepted.

I want to renounce my PR. I don't know what I need to do to renounce my PR in order to succesfully apply for an eTA. This trip planned to October 1st is the first time my girlfriend is leaving Brazil, and I can't postpone it because we have already bought plane tickets and everything.

Is it possible to solve it before october? What do I need to do?

There is a separate process available to renounce PR. Suggest you submit an application in addition to trying to fix the eTA:

Only use professionally taken photos. Find a place that gives you a digital copy of the professional photo. Do not do the digitization yourself. Doing it yourself with photos causes too many rejections.

Thanks. I used a professional photo last time. By reading the page from this link, apparently I can apply with the canadian embassy in my country. I guess I'll gather all the physical documents and go there, since the digital ones are not working

Hey, another question: the IMM 5782 form asks for a photo, but the space reserved is 3x4 cm. The 2 photos I need to attach are supposed to be 50 mm x 70 mm (5x7cm). Should they all be the same photo? This means I should ask the photographer for one 3x4cm and two 5x7cm, is that correct?

@leoh_n were you able to resolve it in your online application. My digital photo has been rejected twice despite being according to their specs and I can not figure out what they want in it. Do you have an idea? How did you work around it? Need to travel urgently.

How about go to a different photographer and try upload again? Or arrive at the land border?

Hi! Try two things:
- Follow these specs, print a photo with a professional photographer to see if it's in the correct sizes and then upload it again: https://ircc.canada.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5781ETOC.asp#appendixA
- If it still doesn't work, you can keep trying to reupload (mine worked on the third eta application) or you can go to a canadian embassy and try to refuse your PR through them

How about go to a different photographer and try upload again? Or arrive at the land border?

Arriving at the border was an option but I am not from the USA, so it's harder for me. The only way to get to Canada is by airplane, and to get to Canada to refuse my PR at the border I'd need a valid visa to get into the airplane

But it worked in the end!
