HELP with NOC code

Hi,

I am currently working for an oil service company in Alberta. My job title is wireline field expert. It was wireline field engineer before but it got changed only in Alberta, Canada at the end of 2012 because of the APEGA regulation. My job group in corporation directory is still engineer. I got confused by the whole job title thing so I am not sure if I should go under oil well logging engineer (2145) or wireline supervisor(8222). Just wondering if any of you can help me with it and give me some advice. Thank you so much!!!

Read both NOC's duties and responsibilities.

Choose the one, that matches with your job duties. Because when you ask your employer for reference letter, that is going matter most.

That's where my confusion is from, seems like my job duty match both of them. Do I need to be a P.ENG to apply under engineer category?

Per the NOC:

Licensing by a provincial or territorial association of professional engineers is required to:
1) approve engineering drawings and reports, and
2) to practise as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.)

If you are not a P.ENG, you cannot claim either of those things.

Did you supervise any staff?

If you were not a supervisor, what about 8232?

I do supervise, I am in charge of the whole well logging operation, from design, perform to trouble shoot is there is problem, I also train junior engineers before they can do the jobs themselves. The company I am working for is an international company, they really don't care if you have P.Eng to be an engineer. Wireline operators are totally different jobs, they drive trucks I can't... Will EIT count as an engineer?

Hello ,

You can use "Engineer" in your title as long as you are registered with APEGA. Which means even if you are a E.I.T (Not P.Eng) then you can use "Engineer" in your title ,but you have to mention "E.I.T" alongside with your name. That is the rule governing here in Alberta.

If you are neither E.I.T nor P.Eng (not registered with APEGA at all) then you cannot use "Engineer" in you title.Companies use sometimes "specialists"/ "experts" in the title to get around this rule. You may not have any "approving/ signing " power , but still do your engineering job.

You still can do engineering work in Alberta as long as your supervisor/ manager has a P.Eng OR you are registered as an Foreign Licensee. (This means you are registered with APEGA).

In all those cases, regarding PR application, you are okay to use "expert" in your title and still doing engineering duties. No problem from CIC point of view.

So, which NOC code did you choose, 2145? If yes, did CIC accept it or did you have to change it to another one?
I have similar situation, but working as MWD / LWD Field Engineer at an international oilfield services company.
Would highly appreciate if you could reply.
