Hi,
I applied for study permit on the 3rd of May and got a refusal letter on the 6th of june.
Details of my application:
Applied with spouse (housewife) in SFU Computing Science Masters program
Previously done BS Computer Science with good GPA.
Strong financial statement.
3 years of relevant work experience

You have not satisfied me that you would leave Canada at the end of your stay. In reaching this
decision, I considered several factors, including:
• family ties in Canada and in country of residence
• purpose of visit
• current employment situation

For the above-mentioned reasons I had submitted the following
I had attached property documents in my name, acceptance letter, payment of initial admission deposit, employment certificate, recommendation letter from line manager and payslips.

I want to reapply and have the following questions:
1) Should I reapply without the spouse?
2) What other changes to my application can I do? that can help me

Without spouse, your chances will increase.

Did you mention in LOE that you want to return to home country after finishing study?

Something must be wrong! your bachelor degree and proposed program are related. you should not have the purpose of visit issue.

Can you post your LOE here? Members can take a closer look for unintentional mismatched information. you can block the sensitive information in the letter.

Study Plan
Data analytics has always been a great source of interest for me, as today’s large enterprises rely on it to make important decisions and to strategize for the future. I am passionate for technology in general, and ambitious to achieve education that enables me to inculcate the skills of decision making for modern enterprises. My aspiration to become highly proficient in the big data analytics domain, stimulated by a tailor-made work experience and a relevant academic history, explains my motivation to pursue the M.Sc. Computing Science degree in Big Data from Simon Fraser University (SFU).

My educational goal is to augment my knowledge, mature my technical skills and gain hands-on experience on the tools and technologies that will enable me to transform massive streams of raw data into actionable insights. Considering my BS degree and professional experience as the first step on the road to excellence, I believe that there is still much to be explored and learned in this vast and exciting field. With this clear incentive in mind, I find Simon Fraser’s Professional Masters in Big Data program to be the perfect match. Without any doubt, the quality of education, scholarly faculty and the learning environment of SFU’s Big data program will improve the level of knowledge I possess. The program’s close intimacy with advanced research laboratories, such as the VIVA lab, is a superb opportunity to learn working on challenging big data problems. Working under the mentorship of top-notch researchers like Dr. Martin Ester and Dr. Petra Berenbrink at SFU will certainly enhance my technical skills.

The advent of efficient data storage and processing facilities in the last decade has created a need of qualified big data scientists in all sectors. However, during my research process for the right academic institution considering my academic goals, I discovered that even prestigious universities in Pakistan currently do not offer a specialized Big Data program. That is the main reason why I have chosen to go overseas and accumulate an intellect in this field.

After completing my BS degree, I decided to put my skills to the test and was able to secure a job at the Teradata Global Consulting Centre in the capacity of Professional Services Consultant in July 2014. Working for Teradata, I have learnt to consolidate a variety of data into meaningful and actionable intelligence. Recently, I got the opportunity to work as a Big Data Consultant at Belgacom, a leading telecommunications company in Belgium. This experience stimulated my passion to pursue Big Data Management.

Now more than ever, Pakistan is in great need of skilled Big Data scientists in every department. After this MS degree, I can enhance my chances of serving the people of Pakistan by working in government projects, such as Flood Prediction and Detection, Dengue control, Metrobus Data Analysis, to name a few. Moreover, my employment opportunities in various corporate organizations in Pakistan will considerably increase because the companies here have already started investing in data analytics to gain business insights that optimize operations and maximize profits. Thus, in Pakistan there will be a huge demand, either within the corporate or the government projects, for adept Big Data professionals.

I will be travelling to Canada with my wife and will be leaving behind my elderly parents and my brother. As part of my religious and cultural values I am bound to take care of my family by returning to my homeland. I belong to a fortunate family and have numerous assets gifted by my father as part of my inheritance. These assets and responsibilities also demand my presence in Pakistan.

Get CAIPS. This will be very important for reapplication.

I assume that your Caips will say that you already have progressed well in your career(you have good job). This degree will not add more to it. Hence your purpose of visit is questionable.

To overcome that, you can change your LOE and mention how this degree will fetch you progress (may be letter from current employer to hire you with promotion after you return, or something like that) when you reapply. Pay 1st semester tuition fees. If it is a research based program, ask your supervisor to write a letter stating why your skills are important for the research program.

For family ties- I really do not see what else could be done except for leaving your spouse behind (heartbreaking solution!). If you go that way, please keep in mind that getting visitors visa / open work permit for spouse may not be a cakewalk and that refusal can be brutal on you. Choice is yours.

Good luck!

Are CAIPS notes absolutely necessary? I wont have time to make it for sept intake if i apply for CAIPS?
And about family ties. adding more property documents will help to increase ties or it is just related to the family?

Not mandatory but very very important and highly recommended. It is worth to defer admission to next semester.

Family tie is not financial tie. But often times VO just adds more grounds to make the rejection stronger. It may be waived if your other issues are rectified. You can probably emphasize more on emotional ties to them,

Thank you for your help. Another question that I have is that if I reapply without the spouse will it make sense or not?
