Hi everyone. I have just received a job interview invitation and am preparing for it now. I am currently an international student holding a post-graduation work permit. Ideally, I would like my employer to help me with PNP application process. However, I'm not sure if it is advisable to raise this issue during the first round of this job interview. Or I should wait and there is other more convenient opportunity? According to experience, how to phrase this concern to your potential employer? I would really like to hear any of your advice. Thank you!

You can always raise it later, say after you make it through your probation period. They can tell you anything they want at the interview without being bound by it. Besides, you can still apply through CEC yourself after you have enough time.

I would prefer not to raise this issue during the interview as it may seem a LIABILITY to the the employer. As liherb said, you can always consult with your employer after you get the job. But if you are on post-grad work permit, it's most likely they (probably an HR guy) will verify your "STATUS" in Canada during your interview.

In my case, I got my job duing my last year (2009) at school. Even though I signed my offer letter, I had to submit my work permit later when I got it. Moreover, I wasn't even aware of PNP at that time. As a result, I had to talk briefly about post-grad work permit and immigration through CEC during my interview. After I joined and came to know about PNP, my employer immidiately applied for it and I just got nominated :)

Hope it helps.

An employer may not want to involve themselves in the sponsorship of someone, until that person has proven themselves in the job. If you bring up the PNP during an interview, the employer may think you only want the job to get your PR.

I suggest that you get the job, prove yourself first, then approach the employer to see if they are willing to sponsor you under the PNP route.

I know that I would find it very presumptuous of someone, to mention sponsorship, before they were actually hired.
