I was quite surprised to read most of the posts here which were not based on any scientific explanation but more on the irrartional fear that has been passed around.

A child is in danger only when exposed to radiations higher than 100 mGy. A chest xray exposes the baby to 1.4 mGy, well below the harmful levels. You are exposed to more harmful radiations from the sun than you will be from 1 chest xray. It also depends on the trimester- its more dangerous to do a xray in 1st trimester than the 2nd and 3rd because that is when the cells of the foetus are developing.

So its only a matter of personal choice and comfort to get a xray or not to get one. It has minimal scientific reasoning - i say minimal because if done during the 1st trimester, there could be an issue. The only reason some of the doctors dont agree is to avoid getting sued - for them its not worth the headache.

agree with u. I did mine on my 2nd trimester with lead apron over my belly. it took just 5 sec and x ray was done, no hard feelings. baby is still kicking in my belly :)

Wow! Turns out it was a good decision you took to do your medicals with the lead apron. Congrats on PR visa and the little bundle of joy you are expecting. Want to hear a good idea for a middle name? Perhaps, the name of the visa officer who issued your visa? :P Just kidding! Congrats again!!

I completely agree with you. I would be more scared if we had done x-ray 20 years ago but now x-ray machines are much safer and using computer software to get target image. I did lots of research and have come to conclusion that if pregnancy is 6 months old (second level safety) than you are fine to go for x-ray. BUT AGAIN... it is very personal choice DO or DON'T.
We did it.

Thanks Ujbaby...we are in 7th month and don't want to take chances..so will be delaying the Xray..

So if i got it correct we need to email the medical defer form with pregnancy confirmation note from our Family doctor to CIC and our file will be updated accordingly?

Also do we need to send any information with RPRF as it is mentioned there to inform about new family addition.....So should i send send the pregnancy confirmation note in RPRF?

since ur in 7th month, I bet it is best thing to wait. 2 months extra wont hurt. I was in my 4th month when I got my medical and couldn't wait for extra 5 months to do the x ray, but all the same, it's all good. I know for sure that my baby will be fine :). yea, email cic with scanned copy of pregnancy deferral form from Dr. and explain to them ur situation and when u will give birth. let them know that u did other test other than x ray. I am not sure about this pregnancy confirmation in RPRF but I know for sure that once u deliver ur baby, u have to inform cic and the baby information will be included in ur file, all the best on ur delivery :).

Hi ujbaby I had my medical done today and doctor have not given any medical deferral form to me. She told that I can send a note to chic stating that I have done my medicals except xray. She also told that she has already entered in the system that I m pregnant and chic can access the information from there.

can you please tell what should I do?

Seniors ur views are welcome.

which Dr. was that?? my pregnancy deferral form was from a Doctor in scarborough Ontario. u have to ask the Dr. to give u a pregnancy deferral form to go for x-ray after u deliver, then email the form to cic.

Hi ujbaby my doctor is in Calgary and she told that there is no such form. She told she has put everything in emedical system and cic can access the information from there... she told that I can send an email to cic about my situation and they will accept it... can U send me link where I can get this form or may be copy of it????

I am in Toronto probably that`s why. I never use the form because I didn't defer the x ray. The form was not from cic but from the doctor so go ahead and do what ur Dr. said and u will be fine :)

I'm on my 8th month of pregnancy. Received RPRF and Biodata but no MR. I replied to the email from RPRF that I am pregnant. They asked me to send a doctor's note regarding the pregnancy. They (CIC) emailed me back that my application will be furthered as I can't undergo medical. Should I then email them after I deliver the baby and asks for MR form or should I wait for them to send me one? any input is highly appreciated. and how long after i give birth can i go for medical?

u have to email them and ask them to send u MR after u deliver ur baby. Tell them that u received RPRF and biodata form but MR is missing. u can choose to do it now or wait till u deliver. you can also go for all tests including x ray as soon as u deliver provided ur healthy, it wont harm. :) wishing u successful delivery and PR:)

Silly me, the medical request is in my spam folder, good thing i double check again and again, it was buried with the rest of the spam mail. I phone CIC hotline and asks, they told me I should do the medical except the xray. so, will the doctor still submit the medical without the xray or will he wait until after delivery and xray is done? uj, did u finally done the xray?
