Hi guys,
my boyfriend is planning to travel from Chile to Canada for the holidays since the last time we saw eachother was 7 months ago. Recently on November 22 Chile got exempted to apply for a TRV, in this case he will just need to prove that he is coming for a short period and will leave on the date stated on his flight ticket. The immigration officer will ask him for proof of ties and I am wondering if anybody can give me tips on what some "PROOF of TIES" would be? what kind of letters, or other paper that he should bring in order to satisfy the immigration officer?
Please help as I am really nervous and anxious to finally see my boyfriend ! Thank you
::)

I come from a visa exempt country too... I've been really lucky at the airport I find cause they didn't ask a lot of questions, especially not this one.
Same thing as your bf: I came here to meet my boyfriend for the first time and to live with him, that's what I told the customs and they simply asked me how we met (internet), but that's it, and I had the return ticket for 175 days after so... REALLY lucky.

Anyways, just to be sure, you could write and send him a letter of invitation that he will show at the customs, saying you're inviting your boyfriend over to your place (I assume) or at your *random relative*'s place JUST for the holidays, specifying the exact period (example: I'm hosting my boyfriend from December 20th to January 11th to spend Christmas Holidays together, etc.) ... if you mention the date (from/to) and the fact that he is JUST staying for holidays I guess it's enough for them to understand he's going back after... plus he has the return ticket with the date on it to show, and even just that it's a proof itself that he's not staying longer.
If he has a job in Chile that's even better... if ever they ask him for "Proof of ties" to his home country, he can state he works there so it's clear that he has to go back at one point. After all, which employer would offer a Christmas vacation longer than a few weeks?
Don't worry anyways :) if they have any problem they would probably tell him they wanna contact you on the phone to confirm what he says.
