Hello everyone,

I received a letter from IRCC in April containing the following informations : (the letter will be at the bottom of my post).

We were under the impression that this was only a reminder and we did not need to start the process to ask for a Mexico police certificate. Are we wrong ? There was no date that they gave us to provide the certificate.

We were still waiting for a precise letter with instructions (like with the medical exam and CSQ). But we're getting worried, on the new tracking tool on the government website, it says :
Elligibility : Completed
Medical Exam : Completed
Background verification : NOT STARTED

Our application was sent in the beginning of februrary, shouldn't the background verification have started ?

In our online application, they are also clearly stating that there's also no document we need to provide for the moment.

In conclusion, we're completely mixed regarding the police certificate. Should we start the process to get the fingerprints taken at our local police station and send it to the embassy of Canada in Mexico ?

Here's the letter :

This refers to the Application for Permanent Residence you made under the Spouse or Common-Law Partner in Canada Class.

Reminder - Police Certificate Police Certificate (Mexico): If you have spent the majority of your adult life (since the age of 18) in Mexico, you must obtain a police certificate from that country. For further information on how to obtain a police certificate, please visit the following link (link)

then a Reminder - Medical Examination (and at the same time we received a letter to go pass the medical exam) and a Reminder for permanent residence fee.

All requested documents/information and a copy of this letter must be submitted within the timeframes specified above (formatted as “year/month/day”). If you are unable to provide any or all of the requested documents/information, please explain why they are not available. No other reminder will be sent to you. If you fail to provide the requested information, your application will be assessed on the basis of the information that we have which may result in the refusal of your application.

(But no date for the police certificate?)

Thanks in advance

I got the same email too. But we can’t request a Police Certificate from Mexico without the request letter from IRCC, we need to include that in the mail.

Hi,

I thought the same but I Think they recently changed the process. You can check on that link (remove the spaces) :

https:// www. canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/medical-police/police-certificates/how/mexico.html

Now it's only to get fingerprints (which I think you can with that letter of reminder) and send everything to the embassy.

Well I'm not 100% certain. But I'm pretty sure when I read that page a few months ago it was different.. I'll try to call the police station tomorrow and see if I can get the fingerprints done.

Hey, I finally decided to send all the required documents to the embassy of canada in Mexico, as per these instructions :https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/medical-police/police-certificates/how/mexico.html

They finally got my police certificate and the same day, my background verification went from ''Not Started'' to finally ''In progress''.

So dont wait until you receive another request, the first reminder is the only thing you need to start requesting your Police certificate.

Best of luck

Is this true? Can someone else confirm ?

It makes it sound like they will send you another letter. If not, great, we can get started straight away. We just got the letter with the reminder.

Thanks.

Don't make the same mistake as us. We waited 4 months for nothing. They won't start your background verification until the Embassy of Canada in Mexico upload your police certificate.

It took around 2 months from the moment the embassy sent it to the Mexican Authorities for them to upload it to our file.
Now it's in process :))

THank you.

I'm debating have my wife's mom try to get the certificate -- as some of my wife's friend did and it took 3w, or applying via mail as per the official docs..
