Hello to all!

I've been living in South Korea for the past 7 years.
My wife is Korean, I am a Canadian Citizen. (We've been married since 05/2013)
I have been working here and getting paid in cash so I have no real proof of income.
We are planning to move to my hometown Toronto next month where I am planning to sponsor my wife for Permanent Residence after our arrival and am really worried about the whole minimum income situation.

Also, if anyone could please tell me, we plan to start a small business, but while we are trying to build the business my wife would like to work part-time. So after we apply for PR for my wife, will she be able to get a work permit?

I apologize for being all over the place and I'm sure these questions have been asked and answered before, but it's past 3A.M in Korea and I'm exhausted and can't sleep because this is stressing me out. And it doesn't help that I can't call CIC from outside of Canada to ask about any of this. :(

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance! ;)

There is no real minimum income requirement to sponsor someone. Since you and your wife plan on being in Canada when you sponsor, what you will have to present to CIC is a clear, concrete plan on how you and your wife will make a living. CIC just needs to be convinced that both you and your wife will not go on welfare. If you will not have income when you sponsor, things like proofs of savings, letters pledging support from family members, etc are helpful.

If you sponsor your wife outland (which is recommended because of the faster timelines), then she will not be able to work until she becomes a PR. Note that she can apply outland while living with you in Canada.

If you sponsor her inland, then after a certain period of time she will be eligible for a work permit (this assumes that CIC will clear you to sponsor). I'm not sure now long it takes before she can apply for a work permit since they have changed this policy a bit. While the overall time for her to get PR will be slower than outland, it is probable that she will at least be able to work sooner than it would take to get PR via outland. Others are more familiar with this so hopefully they can chime in here.

There is a wealth of knowledge in there from people sharing their experience sponsoring their korean spouse.

Good luck!

I have been working here and getting paid in cash so I have no real proof of income.
When you have an odd situation such as this, simply find a way to explain it truthfully. For instance, bank statements showing cash deposits, or get your employer to write you some receipts, or even show receipts for goods purchases to prove you were making money.

When it comes to money they just want evidence that you can support yourself. Explain that you are getting or have a job, show the proof. Explain that family is helping you if that's the case, etc.

As you are citizen you dont need to be canada to sponsor her. Start the outland application immediately. If you are planning to file inland than you there are good chances she will get open work permit while PR is under process.
