Hi, everyone,
I have a couple of questions...
I came in Canada in july 24 2013, I got married in september 2013 with a canadian citizen. We will aplly for the sponsorship in a few days, the problem is that my current passport on witch I have my multiple entry visa will epire in july 2014 so I went to the Romanian embassy and applied for a new one, it arrived. But if I pick it up they will cancel my old passport with the canadian visa...should I apply for an extension with the old passport and then pick up the new one. Or will my visa still be available eve if they cancel the passport?

Hi,

As a thumb rule valid visas on an expired passport are valid. Another option is to transfer the visa on your new passport once you receive your new passport.

I would suggest you call CIC just to cover all bases

Thank's but normally the visa should dtill be available and I should be able to apply for an extension also attaching a foto sopy of my new passport right?

ok, so after I pick up my new passport, and the old one gets cancelled, will the visa still be available? Should I apply with the old passport for the visa extension, or with the new one and simpy send a photo copy of my visa that I had on the old passport?

Hi,

The valid visa on the expired passport would still be valid once the old passport has been cancelled.

You would need your new passport to apply for the extension and there is no harm in sending a photocopy of your visa with the application.

However I would still recommend that you call and reconfirm with CIC.
