Hi

I just went to update my sin number at service canada after I got my pr card. I went in and wait for a service canada officer to call me. After, we both sat on a booth and he began to ask questions, such as, mother and father's first and last names. I asked why, he says it's for security reasons.

Then, he asked one more question regarding sisters/brothers/children. I can't remember the exact question he asked, so I answered " I am the single child." ( that means my parents only have one child, which is me). Now, My concern is ( I think I am paranoid), I am not sure if he listened to me correctly. I am worried he listened it as " I have the single child.( I DO NOT HAVE A CHILD.) Should I go back to service canada and clarify on this matter? Because when you go and update your sin, there is no paper application involved. So I am not sure if the officer has recorded all the correct information about me. I do not want this matter affect my pr. ( I already landed and got my pr card.)

i think you're over reacting. you have your sin number, so what's the big deal? if the officer heard "i have a single child" and he was asking about whether you have siblings, one would assume he would ask for clarification or ask the question again. there's nothing to worry about. these are standard questions that everyone is asked and the government is not going to come after you or cancel your sin# in the rare chance your answer happened to be recorded wrong, which it probably wasnt. relax.

Thanks for the quick reply. I am more relieved. I don't think he asked if ''I'' have children, omg, what if he did? maybe i am over reacting. I think I only said I 'am' the single child.

Sorry, Just to clarify. Do you mean this issue is serious? or like in a sarcastic way, that you don't believe I actually asked this question? ( Is my question childish? actually I think it is a little bit too). This whole pr thing makes me nervous from beginning to the end. I guess that's why I am being very careful and overreacting.

When landing, the cic officer at cic office check if you r still single, dependents or not. (copr says I am single and no children, and the info are all correct on copr), then you sign and you initial. However, Service canada does not have any paper for you to sign or initial when updating sin number, So you don't know for sure what they asked and what you answered.
because I was thinking that cic is updating service canada for landed immigrants. So, I was worried if the officer at service canada wrote something wrong by accident, (such as, he heard "I AM the single child" as "I have a single child." then the info from service canada will not be consistent with cic. Then, service canada will report any inconsistency to cic,(like why is there a child all of a sudden" and causing problems in the future. ( I think I watch too many detective shows. making up stories again. sorry if I am being paranoid).

Hi Success, I think anybody can develop such doubts about little stuff like that,it is ok after all ups and downs of immigration. But as far as everything is recorded in many various places, you need not worry about this single item, even if he got the idea of you having a child ,where is the imaginary child to claim it, haha...keep cool ! Smile ! Have a good day!

seriously as in seriously... stop worrying. this is absoultely not a problem to be concerned about. in fact there is no problem. you are making a problem where one does not exist.

why does being a pr make you nervous? CIC and Service Canada are completely different agencies. one has nothing to do with the other. Servce canada is not oging to report to CIC about your conversation, and i doubt CIC will go inquiring about what you said when you received your sin#. they don't care and quite honestly both agencies have bigger things to deal with than whether your words were misinterpreted! Even if they did, what does it matter? you do NOT have a child. the only reason CIC asks you this is for future sponsorship eligibility. you did not lie to CIC, you did not represent yourself in your PR application. The only reason CIC would care is if you had a child BEFORE landing and you didn't tell them. in that case, you would be banned from ever sponsoring them. CIC does not care if you have a child after approval or if another agency mistakenly heard you have a child when you don't. you don't even know that to be true, so stop assuming something is going to happen when it's not!

the government approved you. you are free to live, work and travel in canada. Canada is a free country. if that is what you are not used to, start getting used to it because living a free life is a great thing.

Thank you for your explanation. I feel so much better when I read your posting. I appreciate you taking the time to type all these information and calm me down. Thank you so much. You mentioned "I did not represent myself"? Didi you mean "I did not misrepresent" myself?
