The 17 months you see online is useless. CIC changed that a while ago, so it's of no value.

I did think they changed the OHIP rule but I could be wrong.
As Milesaway stated, if she applies inland, she would not qualify for OHIP until AIP. That's 17 months that she will be without health coverage. She can purchase insurance during that time but it will only cover emergency care.

Outland is definitely the better choice. Submit the app before coming to Canada. When she enters, she can show that she has applied for PR and will be visiting her spouse while the app processes.

Hey everyone!
I'm a similar case: German spouse going to apply outland and hoping to come permanently in November 2016. I was wandering myself if I should tell the border officer that I'm applying for PR if I enter without the PR approval. Any experiences if that's likely to be an issue?
Best, Kathi

CBSA can see the PR application. You can tell them you are visiting while waiting for the PR approval.

Also, how many letters from friends/family do most people submit?

So far we have a pictorial history put into a word doc, with a timeline documenting their relationship since 2010, family gatherings/vacations in Canada and so on. Also their entire text history, plane ticket receipts showing we all went to Canada together in 2012, official confirmation from the city hall that they have been registered at the same address for 2 years+. Any other things that are viewed well by them?

I think we submitted 4 letters. I believe there is a requirement for 2 statutory declarations for common-law applicants. Check your guide to see exactly what is required.

Thank you - I was just assuming most people went above the minimum requirement, and wondered how many they sent.
