Dear all:

I need your advise on the personal history section. I have three post secondary degrees: a Bachelor of Science, a Bachelor of Arts, and a Master of Arts (Presently doing M.Phil. but as yet incomplete). Now, the duration of Bachelor of Science was from 2000 to 2004, and while studying for this degree as a regular student, I also did Bachelors of Arts as a private candidate (2001-2003), and then studied Master of Arts (2003-2005) as a regular student. So, the time periods of the three degree overlap with each other. Is that alright? What do you think?

Start date End date Activity Name of company, employer school, facility 1999-03-12 2000-06-02 Studying ABC School
2000-06-03 2000-09-24 unemployed
2000-09-25 2004-02-27 Studying DEF University
2001-09-19 2003-08-31 Studying XYZ University
(Private student)
2003-11-10 2005-09-06 Studying XYZ University
2005-09-07 2007-02-11 Unemployed
2007-02-12 current Working XYZ University
2007-02-12 current Member of University Teachers
Organization
2017-03-16 current Studying XYZ University

Please advise if the overlapping dates, especially while studying for different degrees is alright? Thank you.

It shouldnt be a problem. You can study as much as you want :) It might need some explanation when work and studying overlap, which is not your case.

Thank you very much for the response. Even if the degrees havebeen obtained during the same time period?

My currents studies and work are simultaneous as I teach in the same department where I am studying now for higher research degree. Should I be explaining this?

Hi! Dont see any problem with study time overlapping. As for job and study, check CIC website for full time job reqs. Its 30 hours per week for fulltime job and other conditions, and there is a req for studying to be considered part time, its around 15 hour or less, not sure, do check. Its important if you claim points for this job, since only one can be full time in this case-study or work. We had a similar situation and highlighted that study time overlapping with work experience was part time.

Thanks a lot for making it so clear. I am much relieved now. I have only recently started with m.phil studies and may not complete if I get the PR visa. Should I just skip mentioning the current studies?

Well, you cant get ECA for it yet, but you have to include it into personal history. I dont recommend skipping it in any case, it is a misintetpretation, and its so not worth it. You can add an LoE and show you have less than 15 (or what is reqs for that) hours a week. And of course, your job should satisfy full time job reqs, its a key point. Than claiming points shouldnt be a problem. Dont skip any info, especially since your work and study place are same. Misinterpretation is 5 years ban, its serious matter.

I'll follow your advice and won't skip a single thing. In any case my studies comprise of only 3 hours a week. Many Thanks. :)

While applying with documents after the ITA there is an OPTIONAL DOCUMENTS section where you can submit an explanation letter regarding the overlapping or any concerns which needs an explanation to convince the Analyst / Visa Officer. Upload a PDF and you can give it a name
