My parents trv rejected tomorrow. I am studying in Canada and the reason for their visit is to attend my convocation(graduation ceremony). They have also attached my invitation letter from college.
They give the reason that there is a risk that you will not return to your home country, travel history, purpose of stay, personal and financial assets.
My dad attached all his salary slips, movable and immovable assets. He is working in Indian Railways from last 25 years and he is on good post. My elder brother is studying in India and he is dependent on them.
We are thinking to reapply by the end of this week because the convocation ceremony is in May. Please help what to do or what additional documents are reqired.

Hi Loveneet,

Sorry to hear your parents and elder brother were refused TRVs.

Can you please provide a more comprehensive list of documents that each of them submitted so that we can help you. From the rather long list of points of refusal, it appears that maybe your parents/brother did not present their strong ties to their home country properly

Also have they traveled abroad in the past?

Don't lose hope

Only my parents have applied for trv not my elder brother. No they don't have any travel history. They submitted property evaluation report from the registered chartered accountant, salary slips, bank statements, education certificates, family information, car registration papers, annual income proof,NOC from the employer, Convocation Invitation letter by the college. And there is a covering letter also.

Hi Loveneet,

I suggest you should do the following when you re-apply.

Your parents must demonstrate strong ties to India.

Your dad should provide an Explanation: My Strong Ties to My Home Country viz India.... this will have separate sections for the below ties.... all amounts mentioned should be in both CAD and INR:
Employment Ties
NOC + Appointment Letter + Letter stating his current designation and emoluments + 6 months salary slips + is he eligible for any promotion/salary revision as per Central Government rules, if yes, then provide supporting documents + ITR for the last 2-3 years

Property Ties
Sale Deed for each property + Property Evaluation done by the CA along with current market evaluation proofs like from MagicBricks or Property Times for the area where your dad's property is located + latest Property Tax receipts + if it is not mortgaged/no loans or low mortgage balance then state this

If it is an apartment in a housing society then also provide latest maintenance receipts + copy of share certificates + if rented, then provide evidence for rental income

Financial Ties
Proofs of financial investments in FDs, RDs, mutual funds, last 6 months of bank statements, shares/stocks with current market value and dividend stubs, bonds, PF, EPF, LIC, foreign currency if purchased from a RBI licensed Forex dealer, gold jewelry evaluation (self), etc

If your dad has invested in FDs then do mention that the FDs are not locked-in or mortgaged and can be liquidated if required

Family Ties
Immediate family: Mention about your elder brother + any other siblings + grandparents (if they live in the same house).... also mention your elder brother is studying and is dependent on your parents.... mention any other dependent siblings/relatives also

Extended family: Broadly mention your maternal/paternal relatives (names/addresses are not required) who live in the same city or in India

Any other ties that you parents have to India.... for eg: if they volunteer in a charity organization or maybe Rotary/Lions Club, etc

You must provide separate evidence for your mom if she is employed.... if she is a homemaker then you can say that your dad will take care of her airfare/travel and living expenses during the visit.

Your parents must show about CAD 1000/week per person for the visit.

For how many weeks do your parents wish to visit?

Your parents must also draw up a detailed day-by-day (broadly) itinerary that includes sightseeing, meeting friends, etc.... and not just say that they are visiting for your convocation.... in this detailed itinerary, your parents must include expense estimates for the sightseeing and prove that they have liquid finances to support this itinerary

Do your parents have to return to India by a specific date? Then mention this in the Cover Letter and back it up with evidence

Also, please submit paper applications

Hope this helps your parents to get their TRVs

Hi,

I suggested paper application in the case of Loveneet's parents because based on my suggestions, there could be more documents/evidence to submit.... of course, one can prepare one comprehensive PDF file for all documents/evidence (if one wants).... paper/online applications are a matter of personal choice of the applicant

Also, perhaps, you may want to check the current processing times for online applications.... including the time taken for visa stamping after getting passport requests

Cheers :)

Hi Brynna,

To follow-up on the original post..
I have a aunt that lives in Vancouver that my parents and I would like to visit if my parents get a visa. Is it better to avoid adding this to the paperwork? Will there be a higher chance of rejection?
The plan is to have my aunt and uncle visit from Vancouver via car and they were thinking of driving back through Canada to BC with me and my parents and spending a week in Vancouver before we head back home?

should we just not add the vancouver portion?
I am very confused. Please help

Also, we are thinking of adding that I am having a graduation party in case the visa is issued post convocation ceremony. Is this sufficient enough?

Hi Loveneet,

You're welcome :) Sure you can ping me if you need help.

Regarding your aunt in Vancouver, how is she related to you? Is she a close relative of your parents?

Hi Brynna,

Yes she is my moms blood sister. Her and her family of 5 live in Vancouver, BC. They are open to covering all costs associated with our trip. My only concern is they will reject the application because the expenses on paper will be very high.
We had mentioned this in our original submission but we fear they will stick to the reason of not returning to our home country again.

Thoughts?

Your aunt's details will show up as a close relative on your mom's 'Family Information' form.... hence, do ensure that your parents show very strong ties to India (including that there are more non-accompanying family members in India)

Did you prepare a realistic estimate of expenses? Can you please explain how the 'expenses on paper are very high'?
