Help: Online TRV with a BOWP

Hey guys,
I recently received my BOWP and I was planning to apply for the Online Temporary Resident Visa within Canada now. I went through the online wizard for the document checklist and had few questions about it.

1. I should send a scanned digital copy of both our bowp permit and passport pages right ?

2. In the IMM5257E Application > Details of visit to Canada > Name of person or Institution visiting >
Since I am here in Canada by myself having finished my contract with current employer and will be looking for work with a new employer. How do I fill up this section ?

Would appreciate if someone could help me on this, as you guys always rock !.

I applied for TRV two days ago.

You have to upload your passport copy and BOWP copy along with the form.

Did you just do the checklist stuff with CIC and then it linked to your CIC profile?

There is nothing to link. When you complete online questionnaire, you will get a personal checklist code. After you log into mycic, you will be asked to input this code, based on which your document checklist will appear. Upload those documents and make a payment. Good luck.

Thanks for info Toronto2013. I will be doing the same. I was also wondering if anyone has tried applying for the TRV from india and how long does it take ? as a friend of mine needs to probably do it from there.

Is there a reason you are doing it online? You will need to submit passport anyway so why not just send everything along with passport. Unless there is significant difference in processing time, it is not worth the extra work.

This could vary from person to person. However, I just got my passport today with TRV (it was based on work-permit and not the regular BOWP). They received it on Feb 5 and it took them almost 1.5 months to get all the processing done. The website says only 17 days.

I'd say apply online so that at least you will have your passport with you even if they delay the approval.

I just help my friend applied for trv. We did it by paper as we are thinking you will submit your passport anyway through mail why not submit it all together. Lucky he just got it for 3 weeks. So i suggest submit it by paper so you will not worry as to when the office will email you to send the passport.

The reason was simply bcoz I thought applying online may take less days but not sure of it as it varies.

Anyone tried applying from Vancouver ?

I want to apply for TRV online. Can you please confirm if the following is true:

1. In the online questionnaire, do we select "visit" in the first question?
2. Do we select "Temporarily stay for more than 6 months" in the 2nd question?

Can somebody please confirm the checklist documents for online TRV application. I got the following:

1. IMM5708
2. Proof of funds
3. Passport
4. Digital Photo

I got confused because mail application for TRV asks for different documents. The form with the mail application is IMM5257 or something. Also, there are some other forms required in the mail application. Can somebody please clarify?

@waqas11, I think selecting depends on your purpose of travel, as when I did, I selected work and temp stay for more than 6 months, also I was applying from within Canada. In my case they asked me, the form IMM5257E, passport pages copy and digital photo. I did through online application so not sure about the regular postal mail.

Thanks for your reply. I selected "Visit" in the first question because I thought that TRV visa is actually a visitor visa. I didn't select "work" because I thought the questionnaire might lead me to a work permit application.

My case seems to be the same as yours. I am applying from within Canada. I just got my BOWP.

I am not sure what's the correct form? IMM5257 or IMM5708. Can somebody please clarify?
