Hello. I am a Canadian citizen residing in Ontario and I have been in a relationship with my partner who is a US citizen for a year. I am 25 and she is 26. We have met on the internet and she has visited me once and I visited her once. What is the best way to be together if we both want to live in Canada together. Does being married before hand help? because we are totally down for that(LOL). I am posting this thread because we have not lived together for 12 months even though we want to but how can we if she can't come over to me except for 3 months as a US citizen only. I have a job and can support her but it is the legal aspect of it that is confusing. How can I get 12 months of living together if I can't bring her over yet.

As a US citizen, she can visit you for six months. While visiting, she can apply online to visit for longer, to get the full 12 months for common law sponsorship. Or you can get married in either the US or Canada, and then apply as a married couple.

Or you could both live here for 6 months and then you move to the States for another 6 months to fulfill the conditions of 12 months. Seen some other people go down this route on this forum.
