Help Needed Regarding work experience with an offshore company.

Dear all:
My brother is applying for express entry programme, but is uncertain about his work experience. He has been working for a UK based refurbished computers company, for which he manages all the purchases and dispatch of units through online system. He doesn't have any fixed 9 to 5 work hours, as he has to work from home, and usually works any odd number of hours out of 24 hours a day. While he can get a good reference letter, but the question is: Can his work experience be accepted if he has worked from home, and that too for a company that is in another country?

Also, while working, my brother has also completed his MBA degree. Could a simultaneous work and education be questioned? Would really appreciate your help with these questions? Thanks.

Since the work and education is outside Canada, he can claim points for both. Your brother needs to ensure that his employer adds the correct number of hours in the letter.

The company is based in the UK but your brother was not physically living in the UK. Hence, he would need to select his physical location for the location of the work. If he selects UK, he would be required to get a UK PCC which wont be possible to obtain as he would have no UK residential records.

Yes you cant claim points for work and education at the same time if it was in Canada.

Why would he rent an office space? That sounds so dodgy to me. It doesn't take a genius to type the name of the company in Google and get the UK address of the company and then your brother's rented office address will have some other location which does not match the website. He would be complicating things for himself. There is no harm in working from home. Many people do that.

Another option your brother has is to apply for EE as self employer where he is registered as self employed in the country he is based in and shows the UK company as a client.

Since he is a full time employee of that company, getting a fixed monthly salary, I think it would be best to report himself working from home then, if thats fine. I just hope its fine. :-\
