Good day all, pls I need advice for my case. I intend to land in Ontario soonest but my EDD will materialise before the mandatory 3 months wait. I also understand that most private insurance will not attend to me now since I am heavily pregnant. Pls what other cheaper options do I have to achieve delivery in Ontario without breaking the bank? Or is there any affordable private insurance for heavily pregnant women in Ontario?

Private insurance will only cover the costs of pregnancy if you purchace the insurance before you are pregnant. If you are already pregnant then no private insurance policy is going to cover you and you will have to pay for any care out of your own pocket.

I think you can land in ontario and then go to alberta where you can make medical cards and they dont have the 3 months wait period. once you get them you can deliver in alberta and then later come back to ontaraio .

sounds difficult but I can think of this only option. Apart from that i heard that in ontario there is a 3 months wait period but they consider childbirth cases on priority and wave off the wait period , i am not sure on this but i read it on this forum only

Hmmm, this is worth exploring. Thanks ciscossie. Is it ok to have two health cards from two different provinces? Wont that be illegal?

you can still have private medical insurance in ontario which only cover dr visit, in emergency,
regards to your pregnancy, dont know where about you going in ontario find gyn they usualy charge $4000 for full pregnany term plus from$2000-2500 hospital delivery cost per night, usualy if its normal delivery i can come home next day, make some phone call you few gyn, you will get the info...i have no info about midwives...

No - you can't do this. This is classified as health care system fraud. We have had a few members of this forum try this and the province they left went after them for tens of thousands of dollars - much more than they would have paid if they had just paid for the costs of the care out of their own pocket. Don't start your time in Canada by committing health care ststeym fraud. This stays on your health care record permanently.

Thanks once again Scylla. That puts paid to it then. I will stick to Ontario n foot d bill. We will survive by God's grace.

Hi Dotsngr, just to give my 2 cents advice. We equally had a similar situation like yours, we landed in Ontario and baby came about a few weeks later. We paid about $6,850 CAD for a C-Section.
