Help - Medical Assessment Question

Hey guys and gals,

My wife is currently going through the spousal visa application and we're about to book her medical assessment and send the whole package away. Quick question, though -- it seems that in the London forum (we're in Edinburgh, so would be going through the London office), many people have waited longer than 12 months to receive any word back and their medical assessments are "expiring". I've been told that once you receive your visa through, that you have 12 months from the date of your medical assessment to enter Canada. If we were to get the medical done in June, and the visa had still not been processed by June 2016, what happens then?

Thanks very much!

There is no straight answer to this, you will just have to wait and see. Sometimes they will extend the medical (only if there are no flags of an issue) sometimes they will ask for another either during the process or at the end, in order to land.

Gotcha, thanks very much For your response -- any idea if they pay for the second exam? From what I can see (and please, anyone, let me know if I'm *hopefully* wrong in this), but it seems like the assessment is around the £300, which is pretty steep! Wouldn't want to pay for it twice if avoidable

1. Nope, you are on the hook for the medical exams.

Unreal -- so we pay for the application/visa fees, ensure that the application is tip top and accurate, get all assessments and checks done, but if they happen to take longer than a year on their part, we have to pay for it. Seems a bit unfair!

Thanks for your replies everyone!

Yes the costs of all this can add up. Fee's, med exam, criminal check with prints, mailing costs, notary costs if applicable, paper, printer ink etc etc.. You can elect to do the med exam at a later date if you want although imo sending in a 100% complete application is the best way to go to assure the fastest processing time. They often will extend the 1 year date for medicals, and if you did need to do another one again your wife would be here in Canada as a visitor, and she could do it here and probably cheaper.. It's worth taking the risk to just bite the bullet and do the meds now and hope for the best 8)
