Hi,

I have been working at my company for 2 years now.
I am going to apply for CEC but confused with my NOC code.

my Ielts scores were 8 so I am okay with that part,
but regarding NOC, I fall under two categories

1123 Professional occupations in advertising, marketing and public relations
and
1221 Administrative officers

I do lots of stuff at my work, it's not big, only 6 people working + some part timers
so I do lots of administrative work from getting meetings and work organized, planned to
actually going to the meetings to get things done.

also I majored Marketing at UofT so I do lots of marketing work for the company,
from advertising to interacting with clients and companies.

so overall, I think I can use either 1123 or 1221
but someone told me it is easier to go with 1221 because 1123 will require higher pay and experiences.
I am only getting paid $15/h because it's a smaller company and as an international student I needed anything.

so now, what do you guys think I should use? 1123 or 1221?
my boss is flexible, he can write me a reference letter to what I choose.
I do lots of work at my place,, I have good knowledge of e-marketing and commerce
so I built our website and run it as well...

please help me, I am so frustrated because I see people getting rejected for the wrong NOC.

call to CIC and find the NOC code of current work permit issued by immigration.
later choose the appropriate NOC code and prepare Job duties which matches to your NOC code.

I'm assuming you are on an open work permit? If so: -

1) Get your employer to write your reference letter that outlines your title, length of employment, hours worked per week, job duties etc etc.

2) Once you have this, find an NOC that BEST matches those duties mentioned on your reference letter - do not worry about your job title or wage necessarily. Remember, you don't need to have identical duties or all of the duties as is outlined int he NOC description, but the more the better. CEC can contact your employer or do a site visit, so you need to be honest with the reference letter. Make sure you pick an NOC that matches the outlines duties - not the other way around.

3) Your education doesn't matter for the purpose of the CEC application.

Good luck.

That's because it was a closed work permit. Open work permits don't have a specific noc attached.

THank you,

I am on open work permit because it's PGWP.
So do you think the level of NOC is not so important?

I think 1123 fits me more than 1221, but 1221 does fit my work as well.
someone said NOC with 2 in the second digit is a lower rank job so it is easier for recent graduate
to get CEC approved. I dont know how true it is.

I am confident that my job entails what 1123 states,
but I dont want the officer to question my job and boss too much and reject me,
my boss does not speak fluent English so this worries me a little bit.

But I am confident that my job is identical to 1123 and I can get my boss to write me a reference letter
regarding this.

- It's important that you select the best NOC to match your actual duties. The NOC is still very important.

- Recent graduate doesn't matter... The NOC must match your employment duties!! This is the focus!

- If 1123 matches your job duties, this is the one you should go with. You can't predict what CIC will do so just choose the best noc!!

But I am confident that my job is identical to 1123 and I can get my boss to write me a reference letter
regarding this.

Get your boss to write the reference letter (and get him to write the duties that you do) and when you have this, then look at the NOC. Good luck.
