Hello,

I want to apply for Canadian PR as a federal skill worker. However, I am confused about my eligibility. Actually , not confused but I have to play around to make myself eligible for PR. Please help me to count my points for immigration and also suggest me your ways to get eligible for PR. Thanks a lot in advance.

Now little bit about past and present: I have done my Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering. I graduated in May 2004 and joined one of the largest oil refinery "Reliance Petroleum Industry" in June 2004. I worked over there for 31 months (up to December 2006) as a full time employee. (FYI: This experience is similar to NOC 2145 which is listed in 38 occupations listed for federal skill worker.) Then I came to USA in January 2007 to pursue Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering. I am going to graduate in December 2009. I also got full time paid internship during my master. I was working as an Engineering Intern from June 2008 to December 2008. (FYI: This experience is not listed in occupation list for federal skill worker although it is related to mechanical engineering)

My points according to me:

Education: 25 (Master degree)

Experience: 17 or 19 (I do not know can I count my internship experience. If yes the total number of months count = 31 + 7 = 38 so more than 3 years so 19 points. But if I can not count it, the total number of months = 31 and so I will get 17 points)

Age : 10 (I am 26)

Arrange Employment: 0 (I tried a lot by applying directly to employers and also tried to find out agency which can help me for arrange employment but I could not get success. I need your comment on this. Do you know any agency or employer who can help me for arrange employment)

Language ability: 14 maximum (As English is not my native language I have moderate efficiency in writing. So I can expect 4,4 and 4 in Speaking, Listening and Reading. But in writing I am expecting only 2.)

Adaptability: 0 or 4 or 5 (Right now single, If get married I can easily earn 4 or 5 points due to my spouse education. But I do not want to count this option as of right now)

So according to me :

Least points = 25 +17 + 10 + 14 + 0 = 66 (one point short so I need someone to help me for arrange employment)

Maximum points = 25 + 19 + 10 + 14 + 0 = 68 (As I mentioned above I do not know about that internship experience. If you know please let me know)

Sincerely,
Nish

Dear ,first of all welcome to our forum ,i m putting forward my opinion may be i m wrong so here is my suggestion ,if u have done bachelor in engineering then u will get 20 points and if u use masters then u will get 22 points not 25. You can use only one degree to get marks not 2 may be ,Now if ur intership is paid and full time then it counts otherwise not ,correct me if i m wrong thanks and takecare

You would get 25 points for education if you obtain a Master's degree and complete atleast 17 yrs. of full-time study.

You can count your internship experience as it was full-time paid position.

You would have to take IELTS exam to claim the language points otherwise it will be at the discretion of the visa officer.

Go to english, then immigration...

you can only get 25 points, if you have 17 years of total education. If you have 16 years of total education (with masters), you get 22 points....

Is the internship part of the degree?
Here is the question to the senior members. If the internship is part of his MS degree, does that time get counted for his education AND his work experience.

By the way, was your internship full time (i.e. at least 37.5 hours of work per week).

Was it part of your MS or separate? By that I mean, if you hadn't done the internship, could you still get the MS without doing anything else (i.e. replacing the internship with classes)? This might help others answer a question I said above.

Yes it was separate. My internship did not replace any classes. Even if I would not done my internship I would get my MS degree..........

Great, in that case, i believe its a no-brainer. You can count it for your work experience. Good luck.
