Thank to everyone who responded to my message (October 26th)
I have another question...
Can my husband find a job in Canada even if the application has not gotton aproved yet? or can he get an extention on how long he can stay in Canada for?(more than the 6 months he is allowed to stay?)
He is very educated(University of Essex/masters with Distingtion/20 years experiences w/ Multi-National companies/Director of Sales at Pepsi)...he would be able to find a job easily, I think ;)
We plan to live in Kingston Ont....peaceful and full of opportunities (my hometown)
I plan to send the application the lastest end of November...I will be going in April 2013, my husband will come in May...can he start looking for a job when he comes?(before getting accepted for PR) How long does the application take to get processed from the day they reciece it?
We are living in a crazy country right now and we need to get organized....PLEASE HELP ME!!!

MargoS (Canadian girl living in Greece)
Thank you in advance ;)

Hi,

Unfortunatlely your husband will not be able to work in Canada untill his PR has been granted. Processing times vary depending on which Visa Office processes your husband's file. Based on current timelines your part of the application would take 35 days to process, your hasband's part could take maximum around 8 months. Look at this website for different processing times.

Actually, that's not quite true.

If he can find an employer willing to sponsor him by obtaining an LMO (Labour Market Opinion) letter then yes, he can work prior to obtaining PR. Given his qualifications and experience (NOC O level) it is highly likely he will find an employer willing to do so. Obtaining an LMO can take several months, however.

Processing time varies by country. Since he is from the UK, he can ask for his application to be processed by the London Office, and processing times there are very fast - fast enough that if you submit this month the application could be completed by May, 2013.

The best way to obtain speedy processing time is to submit a well organized, thorough and complete application.

LMOs are REALLY hard to get.

Mine got denied last year, despite being a NOC 0 and having 2 years of experience AT the employer that requested it.

It's worth a try, but you shouldn't rely on it

I haven't had problems obtaining LMOs (for others) in the past, but they certainly are not guaranteed. I suspect that in your case part of the issue would have been the limited experience - two years just isn't a lot. A position requiring a director level candidate with 20+ experience in the beverage business is very unlikely to be a challenge to obtain, particularly for an organization familiar with the LMO process.

Have to admit, i did not pick up on the 20+ years of experience there.

Worth a shot, but be prepared for looooong waiting times.
I'm not a big fan of HRSDC

Having held a marketing director position at Fortune 500 global companies and professional experience for 15 years did not mean much in finding a job here in Canada. He can certainly try, no harm, but I would not rely on that either. As soon as he comes, I recommend he starts developing networking.
