Help !! Live in caregiver

Hello

I am doing in live in caregiver in BC for just half a year from Sept.2011, but I am planning my future right now after 1.5 yrs. I wonder can I apply for a master program on Dec. 2012 when I will still on this program. Because It's kind of a smooth connection that I can go back school on Sept. 2013 when I will just finish my 24 months at that time. So I wonder can I apply at that time? Can I plan ahead?

Another question is that my visa and work permit will be expired on Sept. 2013 which the day I just can finish my 24 month. Can I apply for my open work permit b4 I finish my work hours? If I can't, how can I stay in Canada ?

please help me, thank you for someone who can answer my questions.

I'll answer the marked query. DOn't apply for the PR/OWP before you complete the program because you're not qualified at that time. To be able to remain "in status" apply for the extension of your WP with your employer (if they still want you) or with another employer, well ahead of the expiration of your current WP.

Thank you for answering my question. so your meaning is that only the one way I can do which I must extend my "live in caregiver" work permit with my current employer or another employer to be able to remain my status till I can get my open work permit? Can I find another kind of job to extend my work permit? How long can I get my open work permit after sending my all paper work? When I go though another poster, it seems that we have to wait for over 1 year to get open work permit. So does mean that I still have to work on live in caregiver for 1 year and then I can find another kinds of job ?

Yes. You can not work in any other job except that as a live in caregiver till you get your OWP. As to how long before you receive your OWP after you submit all the requirements? Nobody knows except the officer who'll process your documents. Some have waited over 18 months, others waited 3 weeks.

In BC, a worker under LCP is only allowed to study up to 6 months and connected to the Caregiver Program..Better to extend your work permit and apply for the OWP at the same time, as per recent processing times, OWP is processed faster than before, so when u get your OWP you're free to work with somebody else, and you're free to study any courses and no time limit hope it helps..

I have inquired the other day about studying here in 1 of the colleges here in Edmonton. I just submitted my OWP/ PR application under live in caregiver program and would want to know about Studying here. I've asked about LPN or RMT. If I've got my OWP, the rep said that I could just get a study permit but have to pay the tuition out of my own pocket which is not cheap because of the international fees. But once I have the PR, I could study with government assistance and tuition is cheaper. I am just excited to be a PR soon so that I can just study and be able to enjoy the job I want to do someday.

1. you can go to school as long as it's not more than 6 months..
2. you can get study permit while waiting for your OWP, but you have to pay your tuition fees way more expensive bec they will consider you as international student.

my advice is, why don't you just wait until you get your PR then you can enroll any course, no time limit with givernment assistance...btw, riaivy1980 is right...

did you get your open work permit now?if not you better renew your passport bec. your temporary visa even the OWP will depend in the expiry of your passport..

Hi, I am also a live-in caregiver in Canada and I have a lot of experience because I changed families a few times, extended my stay and so on.
1.About studying, you can apply to a college/university anytime you want. But you have to apply as an international student. Once you are accepted, an acceptance letter will be issued to you, before it's issued you have to inform the college that you holding a valid work permit (at least 6 months before expiration, name of employer is indicated on the permit as well as the province). Just so you know foreign workers who have such work permits as ours are exempted from international premiums at all governmental post-secondary institutions. We are to pay domestic fees, which is a great plus! Your acceptance letter will have the domestic fees on it and it's a good idea to pay for the first term before you apply for a study permit which you can do online, it's very easy, you have to upload just 3 documents: your passport, acceptance letter and proof of funds available for one year tuition and accomodation.

2. Your work permit expires next September, you should extend your stay before it expires. It's a good idea to insure you have valid status and not just implied status, because with your work permit expire both your Medical Insurance and Social Insurance Number, just to be on the safe side I recommend that you apply for a new work permit at least 1 month before it expires. Your Open Work Permit might take 2 months but it may take much longer than that. So why be stressed when you can plan everything in advance. Good luck!

1. My recent workpermit expires on Jan 2014, if i want to change employer in 2 months,will i have the same expiry date?should i apply for an extension of work permit at the same time if i will change employer?how long will it take for me to wait for the new workpermit?
2. My passport expires Jan 2014(same as my workpermit), when and where can i renew?

hi, here's what I can tell for sure:
1.Your work permit can never exceed the date of expiry of your passport. So you can't apply for extension at this moment and your new work permit will be valid until the same date in Jan 2014. Have your new employer received LMO? After you get LMO you can apply for a new work permit and it should take around 1 to 2 months depending on how many applications cic receives at that moment.
2. which country are you from? is there an embassy or consulate of your country here in canada? if so you can contact them and inquire how you can renew your passport, how long it takes and when you can do it. Just remember, when you are applying to extend your work permit your current work permit should still be valid at least for 1 month. So you need a new passport before your old one expires. Once your status expires you cannot renew your work permit.

Thank you orange girl.maybe i can renew may passport 6 months before it expires?because im really having plans of changing employer sometime this year.Yes there is a philippine consulate in Vancouver,i have downloaded an application form and will submit it before the expiry date of my passport. thank you again
