You shouldn't look for housing unseen. You should look when you get there. Just book a motel for the first week and use that time to look for a place. You can see the apartments/houses for yourself, look at the neighbourhood, ask around etc.

thanks for that suggestin, I too had this thought in my mind...but, i would rather feel better if anyone can share there agency or links who helped to get accomodation , just because it reduces not only time but also feel safe than asking unknown neighbourhood and around in a new place.

It is not common to find housing through an agency in Canada. Apartment buildings will usually have signs up where it says apartments for rent, 1 br or 2 br, or no vacancy. You can actually drive around and phone the numbers on the signs to make appointments but it is better to get a newspaper, look at the classifieds and phone the ones that look interesting and make appointments. Get a map of the city first though and get the people at the motel reception to tell you where you definitely don't want to live or which are good areas. They can maybe give you an idea but unless they live there, they will not even be able to say for sure. Better go look at the places, look around and find a convenience store or a gas station or something in the area and ask them how it is there. If you see a lot of pawn shops and liquor stores, it is probably not a nice neighbourhood ;)
