HI,
I ve already applied to Humber May 2013 for advance diploma, Its been a month I havent heard back from the college...Which I did on my own with out any consultant guidance....So I was worried,And wanted to apply for another college in safer side... Just incase humber dint work out...

So this time I went to a consultant in Chennai (Cango), They asked me to fill up an assessment form with all my profile details and gave me a bomb as "Im not eligible for studying in Canada,As I have a gap of more than 5 years" ...And she said... If there is any change in the policy we will let u know... :'(

So I immediately remembered to ask them about PLRA - Which they were clueless neither am I and I requested them to give me information whether my work experience will be an added advantage... But they said... work experience doesnt matter if its gonna be a undergrad program.... :(

Here is my complete profile - Pls do check it out and give me ur feedback....

10th - 2002 - 56%
12th - 2004 - 61%
IELTS score - 6.5 (L7,S7,R6.W6.5)
Ive got about 7 years of work experience in an IT company as a business analyst

The course which I wanted to enroll is advance Diploma in Business administration or international business....

So as now the last studies active was 2004 ,So now I have a gap of about almost 8 Years... Will this be a problem for the admission or the Visa processing.... ?? Pls help me understand and give me some suggestions of the alternates...

Appreciate your help on this concern...

Thanks,
Prathap

1. Your profile is weak, but you can try. A 7+ year gap after higher secondary (not even a graduation) is a problem.

if u like to drive bikes on mountains and forest then u can certainly rely on royal enfield bike similarly here in this forum u can expect same response from enfield sir as royal enfield gives which others bikes are not.

just to add what enfield said.

add some reasons for not studying for 7 years after high school like
you may add that finance was the constrait for not studying further
you may add that your family was in need of money because there was no earner in your family etc.

try mate who knows.

Ok firstly your mistaken.

I have seen this happen a million times in these forums... mis information.

A GAP : Is considered if a person did not do absolutely anything AT ALL after coming out of highschool or did odd jobs like working in a grocery store or something. Working is a perfectly acceptable thing, infact many people in the world do the same thing.

Only thing you should have done in your shoes would have been to get some TERTIARY IT Certifications... which would show some interest in studies but again AS LONG AS THE COURSE YOU SELECTED IN CANADA is IN LINE WITH YOUR EMPLOYMENT your good to go.

Make sure you state why you worked, just mention money issues BUT then you have to show how your conditions changed from then to now in terms of finance.

Hi,
So does these IT courses (CCNA) and other personality development crash courses help?? Because I have did a few and also on North american compensation and benefits course... (Because thats how I bcame a business analyst in an IT company..with the experience) :D and more over I did my Degree... But discontinued it... As due to time contraints right now..Im cant take up the backlogs immediately.. I need an international degree/advance diploma to grow within the organisation...(which is the set goal to move up)As anyways Im taking a 2 years sabbatical leave here in India and going to study...
will any of this make sesnse to the college/univ or for the Visa?

Appreciate the help on this guys...

Thanks,
Prathap

Hy mine is smwhat the same case ... I have been working for 8.5 years after my last active education. But my course is in line with my job and is required to upgrade my career to the higher levels. If after getting some work experience one feels that one needs to upgrade, find some higher order jobs,is this not a reason for one to go for a masters level program?

I completely agree... But if "its gonna be Masters" .. The gap will be fine... as ur wanted to purse studies in order to gain knowledge...However my case is lil different... As im heading towards advance diploma...Which will be like basics... Thats why Im lil confused and worried...

BTW... which college/univ you have applied and in take???

Thanks,
Prathap

prathapg86 and others :

I dont know what this whole story about not accepting to the college if the gap is more than five years....is it something they do with Indian students? Because i had a friend who went after 9 years since his Ordinary Level to a diploma and it all worked out for him.... From Offer to the Visa itself.... Maybe they do this whole we cant get you in story with the indians...

Kind of ironic really.. they have a section in every college called " Returning Students" who have exactly what you have but for locals... they have been working and want to come back.... and they take them in... no problem... so why dont the international people who pay three times if not five times what they pay have that right?

CCNA is very valid infact its even given course credits in some colleges, personal dev courses not so much, whats valid are "INDUSTRY Certifications" because they require you to actually study a bit (yes there are dumps but thats the illegal way)

Yes.. I spoke to Goerge brown counsellor today and he said... Im not eligible even if its any certification... Even I know a guy in this forum who has got a visa after 11 years of gap in same george brown... Not sure what seems to be the problem... And more over in Humber they asked me to try they PLRA...Im not sure whats the steps and how exactly I can approach thru that... Any idea abt PLRA?? is it something like mature student or something??

Thanks,
Prathap

That's odd. I just called George Brown. Here is my exact question " Is it true that if someone stop studying for , let's say, more than 5 years, that person is not eligible to enroll?" and this is what the guy I spoke with over the phone told me "Not here in George Brown. Never Happened!"

But then I guess it depends on the situation, though I didn't give my situation nor he even ask for it. He just said Not in George Brown.

@peggiechua - Appreciate your help on this... :)

I actually met a George brown representative in an educational fair... His name is Saurabh Malhotra... It might be because of that others may b graduate and Im thinking of enrolling in a diploma program... Will that really matter???

Tho I have work experience for about 7 + years and Im planning to take sabbatical leave in my current organization...

Thanks,
Prathap
