Hello. I became a permanent resident last year through family sponsorship (my husband sponsored me.) I happened to be 8 months pregnant when I landed as a permanent resident. I gave birth in September to our first child.

(I gave birth in the USA because I wouldn’t have gotten OHIP in time for my due date.)

So, now my son and I are US citizens and my husband needs to sponsor our infant son.
We are going to be in Canada during the sponsorship, but both my son and I won’t have OHIP for a while.

Any RECOMMENDATIONS on health COVERAGE/INSURANCE my son and I can use in Canada UNTIL we get OHIP?

Please share your experiences, good and bad.

thank you in advance for your help!

There are websites that comapre the various emergency travel insurancd plans. Would stick with Canadian companies

If your husband is a Canadian citizen then presumably your (his) child would be a Canadian citizen by descent, so doesn't need to be sponsored. You would only need a citizenship certificate for the baby.

He is a permanent resident.

I'm not sure if I understand your situation, but I'll try:

  • If I am not understanding you correctly, and you still need some kind of insurance because you can't get OHIP yet, check out Destination Canada's Visitor's insurance. I have been signed up with them as I wait out the PR process and receive my AIP letter and can apply for OHIP. Fortunately I haven't had to file a claim with them, but signing up was very easy. https://www.desttravel.com/?id=1684...E#/insuranceproducts/visitortocanadainsurance
Hope this helps!
