That's what I think you should do. In your residence calculator, you'll explain why you traveled overseas...

1. I've included (a) a letter of employment to cover at least this year, (b) CRA's Notice of Assessment, and (c) T4/T4A forms.

2. I've had a gap, too. I wrote it in a separate sheet attached to 6F explaining what I was doing for 2 months of unemployment (I was in fact transitioning from my Master's to my PhD and had to wait two summer months). I explained that in the extra sheet referencing 6F.
