HELP! documents needed for Work Permit application?

Hi

this is again for the initial friend who doesn't have a work permit or visa yet (i have 2, one with visa, and one with no visa just passport);
he has received his LMO and work contract;
we have the application for the canadian work permit, seems like it's not too bad to apply for, but what are the supporting documents one generally needs, does he need birth certificate for his kids, does he need bank statements, show proof of assets etc, like you would for a regular visitor visa?

please let me know the details as to what docs can be needed for these type of applications.

anyone here who have applied for work permits before can help? i just want to maximize his chance to get through with this application, therefore i would like to know everything that is needed with the application. We are thinking of hiring a lawyer since we cannot find any info online as to what is really needed as supporting documentation. but before we spend a 1000 in retainer fee with a lawyer, i thought i'd give you guys here on the forum, a try.

I sent my application off near the beginning of December and today I just got the letter of approval. I applied under the NAFTA category so what I sent off may be different from what you'll need to send. But basically I sent them a letter of recommendation from my employer, the two photos they needed, a photocopy of my passport, a letter stating my intent and the reason I would need to return to the US (recertification of being a pharmacy technician), the intended duration of my stay, documentation of my certificate and it's renewal date, copy of my job contract, and the application for a work permit itself. My work permit was approved for about a year and a half.
