Hello all.

I know it sounds a little hyper, but I do need help deciphering the approval letter my husband got, sent November 17, 2008.

My main question is are we "final stage"? Or we have to wait a year or so to finish this process?

This is the letter from Vegreville, (we applied for PR JUne 3rd, 2008):

"This letter refers to your application for permanent residence under the spouse in Canada Class.
It has been determined that you meet the eligibility requirements to apply for permanent resident status as a member of the spouse in Canada Class.

We are pleased to advise you that processing of your application has been completed. The Canada Immigration centre in ETOBICOKE will contact you concerning your permanent resident status.

Please note: At the time of your appointment, you and family members, if any are required to present original documents to the CIC. A final decision concerning the granting of permanent residence Status will be made at that time. The right of Permanent Residence Fee of $490.00 is requiered before you can become a PR in Canada. Please be prepared to submit it in from of Money order.. etc. to the CIC in Etobicoke when you are scheduled to obtain your confirmation of PR Document."

I thought We were Approved-in-Principle, but judging by other posts, we are now finally approved?

Please clarify.
This could be the difference in waiting 12 more months or 3 more months.

Thank you all!

I am happy for you because you have been approved for the AIP and that you can work! It would not be long when you will be called though.. just a question Ana, when you applied for that you have a legal status right? I asked because my case was I am out of status when my husband applied and it was transferred to the local office and we don't know when we will be called yet..

Yes, Kessa, he has legal status as temporary Resident. (Visitor)

Anyone else, with experience as to what this letter means? I just want to know if we will be expecting a letter in a month or my husband and I will be waiting for months upon months. Thank you all!

Yes, you're application is for sure completed, and your husband is ready to become a PR.

Since the immigration offices in the GTA are so busy, it is going to take awhile before they contact you with a "landing appointment", but that letter will tell you a date when you go to the office to get his Confirmation of Permanent Residence.

We're in Niagara, and we actually got the letter for the landing BEFORE the approval letter from Vegreville! My husband was landed 2 weeks after they made the decision!

WOW, I can only DREAM that By January He will be landed...

Still I think we are LUCKY we got to this point! So many other sad love stories in this forum. The CIC is lucky though..or they would have had a crying, hysterical woman on their offices if they denied him LOL. I mean.. Really!
I will keep you all posted when the blessed letter of appointment comes.

Wow! Congratulations!

I think you should call CIC call centre, and ask them about it. Most likely you can send a request to stop processing the app for the work permit, and they will tell you how to go about getting the refund. I'm very sure you can get a refund, it'll just take time.

No, he doesn't need the open work permit any more. When he lands on Dec 4, he can immediately apply for a social insurance number (that doesn't start with a 9) and start working. PR's don't need authorization to work.
