Help!!! Complicated Pregnancy Issue.

My girlfriend who was sponsored by her Mom is now 29 weeks pregnant got her visa today. Her Mom has not informed Canadian Immigration about the pregnancy. She has to leave in 3-4 days time as she was only given a really short visa due to her medical report is about to expire..


Now, my question is, does her Mom needs to inform Canadian Immigration? If yes, will an email be sufficient? What should her Mom put in the email?

She does not need to inform IRCC about anything. Only if the baby was actually born would she then need to let them know.

Also they better make sure on provincial health coverage when arriving in Canada, as many provinces have a 3 months waiting period where they will need to pay all pregnancy related costs out of pocket.

So you have been living together since Dec 2016? Just make sure you do not get close to 12 months before she does her PR landing, or it could disqualify her from being a dependent and eligible for PR. I would immediately start living separately, so there is no suspicion from IRCC later on.

She won't have OHIP for 3 full months after landing. There are no exceptions to this. So she will not be covered for the pregnancy, emergencies, or the delivery.

She can look into getting a midwife since they provide free or greatly reduced cost service even to those that don't have OHIP, however they are in very high demand in most cities so it's possible all in her area will be fully booked. http://www.ontariomidwives.ca/

I would make sure she has cash on hand to pay for OB doctor checkups, ultrasounds, blood work, and ultimately the delivery while waiting for OHIP coverage to start. I would budget at least $10,000 for everything, and hope there are no complications that would cause this price to increase.

It's probably also safe to assume she won't be able to find a midwife given they are in very short supply and she will be arriving very close to her due date. Based on that, she will be on the hook for the full costs of the delivery and any pre-delivery care/appointments. It may come in below $10K - but I would budget this amount to be safe (as explained, this is for a straight forward delivery - complications will increase this amount). Another option would be for her to land in Canada and then immediately return to her home country to have the baby there.

Canadian dollars. $10K is a budgetary guess. It could be as low as $4-$5K for a super easy natural delivery, a bit higher if she needs a c-section, or higher than $100K if she has other complications involving lots of tests, procedures or a long hospital stay.

She can certainly return home immediately after landing to delivery baby in home country. She would just need to have someone from Canada courier her the PR card, or she can apply for PR Travel Document from home country.
However this would present more complications since she would then need to sponsor the baby for PR, and needs to be inside Canada to do that. This will be easy if she holds a visa-exempt passport. However if she doesn't, she must apply for a visitor visa (TRV) for baby to come to Canada together. If TRV is refused, it would be a tough situation.

Thank you. All her scans from the first to the last was all normal and the baby was healthy. I'm hoping that it stays that way. She will go for a check-up tomorrow in our home country just a pre-caution and also to get medical certificate just in case the airline ask.

That post is four years old. At that time, it was relatively easy to find midwives. For whatever reason, it now seems impossible (especially in Ontario).
