Hello,

So I am a bit confused about this issue here, are the parents who applied for permanent residency eligible to apply for child care subsidy or do they have to be permanent residents?

I got mixed replies about this and I need to know your experience.

Thanks for your help...

Parents and children need to be PRs to be able to get CCTB benefits. You also have to be residing in Canada.

Actually, no. Parents (who are not PRs or Canadians) of Canadian children receive CCTB after legally residing in Canada for 18 months.

Hi hany,

Residents who are Temporary Foreign worker also can claim benefits after 18 months of legal stay. But people who have a Visitor status do not qualify for CCTB.

I answered your first post that was directed towards "are the parents who applied for permanent residency eligible (you did not specify your status)to apply for child care subsidy or do they have to be permanent residents?".

http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/eng/goc/cctb.shtml

Having applied for PR is irrelevant to claim CCTB unless you actually become PR.

The Eligibility criteria does not mention about - Canadian children with Non Canadian citizen/Non-PR as parents.

Well, I happen to know multiple people who receive CCTB even though they are not PRs or Canadians.
Canadian residents mentioned in the eligibility criteria, means that they reside in Canada, it doesn't mean PRs - according to the explanation by the call centre agent.

Anyway, my question is regarding child care subsidy, not regarding CCTB!
Anyone has information about child care subsidy?

Canadian residents mentioned in the eligibility criteria, means that they reside in CanadaHany, "just residing in Canada" is NOT the criteria. It depends on which status you are on.....a Visitor will not be granted CCTB even if he has been living for quite some time., it doesn't mean PRs - according to the explanation by the call centre agent.

Anyway, my question is regarding child care subsidy, not regarding CCTB! Now, this is a serious lapse on my part.....sorry to have engaged you in an irrelevant discussion :(......but I hope someone would be benefited :)

I did some research for you and I was rather surprised that the rules vary over the Provinces.

ALBERTA: You or your spouse/partner, or the child receiving care are Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada and live in Alberta.

http://humanservices.alberta.ca/financial-support/15104.html

BC:

You must be one of the following:
a Canadian citizen,
a Permanent Resident of Canada,
a Convention Refugee, or
a Person in need of protection.

http://www.mcf.gov.bc.ca/childcare/eligibility.htm

TORONTO: You just need to RESIDE in Toronto to be eligible.

ONTARIO:

Wish you all the Best.

Hello everyone! I'm new at the forum and not sure if anyone will respond to this post as the last message has been a couple of years ago...

Just wanted to know if it is possible to applay to Toronto's Child Care Benefit before getting to Toronto. I'm asking because I've heard it can take up to 6 months to get it and I'll be going over in 03-2016 to study a post graduate in summer semester with my husband and 2 kids.

On the other hand, my kids will be 4.6 and 2 years old 03-2016, they are both in day care ages, right?

Thanks so much for your help!!

Connie.

I think you can apply and will get these benefit even if you are not resident of canada or living in canada. According to my knowledge you can enjoy these childcare benefits.

Hi,

we are landing in Canada on 23rd of August along with my spouse and a seven years old son. We are granted with COPR. Can we apply for child care subsidy as soon as we land there? what documents are needed to submit for the same?
