Do you have some kind of proof that CIC has approved the document? You can print that and show your employer. Also, contact the CIC call center and ask an agent to send you kind of proof.
Unfortunately, without an original of that document, it likely isn't possible to renew your SIN. Go to the nearest Service Canada office with any proof that the document has been approved and has been mailed, explain your situation and see if they can help.
As for your employer, I think the most important part is having the SIN number and you can explain the situation to them. They can choose to wait until you get the SIN renewed or let you start. Hope it goes well.

Thank you~ I had taken the approved letter to serivce canada but they didnt want to renew it....just asked me to call the CIC.(it is alomst impossible that talk with a real person when I call CIC)

So I should explain with my employer....?but they wanna start operation urgently too. I am so worried about that I will lose the job

You can explain if they ask for it. Just because it has expired does not mean the number no longer works. They can either let you start right away or wait till the SP arrives.

Do you have "implied status" at all? That is, you applied for the new document before the old one expired? If yes, then I think on the service canada website, it allows you to work with the "expired" SIN until your new document approved and you take it to service canada. Google online, and take the print out of the information to your employer.

The contract has a blank that ask me to fill my SIN. And I dont have implied status because my study permit has not expired, it lost in post, I just need a paper document. Where can I find relevant provisions on service canada website? Cant thank you enough!
