hi guys, been reading with interest your ambitions and troubles over last few days, good luck to you all may I just say.

I am a 33 year old guy from the UK with friends (not web friends may I just say) in Canada, I have decided after being made redundant and finising a computer science degree that I would like to try and get a skilled worker visa.

have been reading a lot of what other people have said and am established that my NOC is 2175.

this isnt in the top 38 required skills for Canada I know, and again have read that a few people have been denied visas for this reason.

I have the option to go to Canada in about two months time as a friend of the family is the dean of a certain university...who may be able to offer me a full time position

I guess what Im asking here is am I kidding myself that this could happen or will I get shot down in flames from the off start?

Cheers
Neil

Your friend would have to get a Labour Market Opinion from HRSDC that there are no Canadian or PRs available for the job, and that it was advertised and s/he would have demonstrate why the applicants were not qualified. If it was approved, then you would have to apply for a work permit outside Canada, either at Visa Office or as you TRV exempt you could apply at a border port. You can't start any work, until you have the work permit.

hey Neil, I'm new to this site aswell, have thought on and off about moving to canada, i like you have the qualifications but no work experience. Having looked at my information sites some of the info just gets confusing. Have you looked in to applying under the Canadian Experience Class? I think it's basically a temp worker visa, then once you have your work experience you can apply under the federal workers route. i think... your 'friend' might get you that visa easier.. i dunno. Good luck tho.

Your NOC has to be on the 38 list to apply as F.S.W. if it is not, you have to apply under another immigration category.

Hi Neil,
Check the Provincial Nominee Program of that province and apply there with your offer for full time employment. Their approval will replace the LMO and will get you a work permit and support your PR application.
