Hi,

I recently heard that the rule for applying for PR has changed, as in, it isn't necessary to have a job in the field you have studied a program. Heard that even if we have a regular office job and fulfill the number of hours worked we can still apply for PR. Is this true?

That particular rule hasn't changed, it has never been a requirement of the CEC program (which does not represent all PR programs in Canada).

What did change (January 2, 2013) is that there are no longer two CEC streams - previously there was one set of requirements for graduates of Canadian universities, another for temporary foreign workers. Now there is only one stream, one set of requirements - one year of full-time skilled employment (or the equivalent in part-time work).

You can access the requirements for the CEC class here -
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/cec/

For other PR programs -

Hi
I was going through this form. Now I am tensed. I did certification here in community mental health, which is really of no use at all.It was only for 9 months and I got 1 year post study work permit after that. Presently I am working at a gas station as a supervisor and my NOC code is 6211. I have closed work permit with my present employer. I am just wondering if it will affect my case as well that my study and work are not at all related. Or the only thing that matter is work experience?
also plz tel me I want to work as volunteer in a counselling service. So as I have closed work permit. Can I work as volunteer or not?
