Yes, I am. I need help getting back into Canada? What do I do? I intend to go in 2021 as both of my son's will finish their education in the UK. It wasn't scary because I didn't realise. Thanks for your advice so far. I need help though, I am pretty confident I will get back in because I am British and if I travel back through the border with the US, you don't need an ETA. What do I do when I am inside, I have a sin number, can I work? My sons intend to go to university in Canada.

It is scary for a viewpoint of Canadian security. You have been misrepresenting yourself as only as a UK citizen and not a Canadian PR. Your children can attend a Canadian university if they apply for a student permit and pay international fees. You will find it harder to enter Canada now that the new ETA system is in place. Not sure how you can expect to enter Canada with your family, without any problems, after not being compliant with the RO for 20 years. If you reestablish your residency and apply to get your PR card (around another year due to likely secondary review) the chances will be pretty high that at least one child will be over 22 and you won't be able to sponsor them.

I didn't know that my PR was valid until the start of 2017. So I didn't intentionally do it. That is fine if I cannot sponsor them, I will get them to go through express entry. Also I am considering going in 2019 if my son wants me to go with him.

If your cild wants to study at a Canadian university or college they should apply from their home country which I assume is the UK.

What is secondary review?

Secondary review is extra verification that you have met the RO. Given your history you will likely have to wait longer to renew your PR card. You would only be able to sponsor after that process but it can be a long wait. Usually almost a year.

If your children apply for student permits while you are it Canada someone may realize that you haven't met your RO and flag your file to be looked at.

Oh, ok. Can I apply for citizncitiz straight after then because you only have to stay 3 out of 5 years?

Yes if you don't get reported. If you get reported you can't count any time after that. Citizenship and PR cards/RO are two separate things.

Their applications would not flag OP's status at all. No connection.

Given that they haven't even finished school yet, your children will not qualify for EE for at least several years.
