Hi everyone!

I was wondering if anyone here has applied for the medical card in New Brunswick? What was the process like? From what I understand it can take up to 3 months before we get coverage? Does it really take that long? Is it the same for my husband whom is a returning canadian citizen?

Thanks!

hi,

I just have today my appointment at Service New Brunswick for applying for my health card since I start my new job in 2 days, I already got the forms and filled it out at home, now I just need to go to SNB and bring the forms there. I will keep you updated about the outcome of my appointment ! I don`t know yet how long it will take to get coverage and (in my case, since I`m not landed yet or got AIP yet) IF I get coverage at all, I will figure that out today, but like I said, I will post here again as soon as I know more. I don`t know unfortunately if its the same for your husband. Nice to see someone from New Brunswick here :)

I'm in New Brunswick, too (Moncton)! I've been here for almost three years during the processing of my application. I ran into some problems, however (failure to submit a document on time), and have had to re-start the PR process from scratch. I'm currently waiting for an extension on my OWP.

During the entirety of my time here, I had absolutely no idea I could apply for a health card. Darn . . .

@mollybloom I`m also from Moncton :) ! and same as you also already almost 3 years here, I live here downtown Moncton :)

so here is my update about the outcome of my visit to Service New Brunswick:

You will get a form to be completed by you called `New Brunswick Medicare Card Application`, there is a List 1 & 2 about supporting documents that are needed for the whole application such as:

Brith Cirtificate, Valid Passport, (if already landed PR card or record of landing), active Temporary Resident Permit issued by CIC, for Canadians: Certificate of Canadian Citizenship, etc. and for the second list you will need proof of residency in New Brunswick such as: Mortgage Document, Rental or Lease Agreement, Utility Bill (not older then 2 months), Employment Confirmation, etc.

One document is required from list 1 and 2 for each individual listed on the application, also a copy of the last entry date stamp in the passport for each individual is required for those arriving from outside Canada.

I had my work permit with me, my passport, marriage certificate, and now I just need a letter form my employer, so next week I go there again on my day off and bring all the documents (they copy everything there directly at SNB), then it takes about 4 to 6 weeks for the Medical Card to arrive in the mail and in the approval letter will be written on which date the Medicare will take effect.

Hope that helps :) best wishes to both of you !

Good to know! Once I get my new work permit (my current permit expires in three weeks, but I *should* be receiving my new one at the end of Feb.), I'll take care of that. Thanks for the info.!

Hi!Sorry for the such late respond, I'm def having a crazy week at work this week, lol. Thank you so much for your answer! I'm happy to see it seems like it only takes 4-6 weeks instead of 3 months which I thought at first, Not sure where my husband got that information from, lol. Do you know if you get an approval letter at first or do you get it at the same time as the card? :)

I'm happy to see there is a few people from Moncton here, that's where I'll be living as well!, so excited only 28 days left :)
