You can go with both but since you are going to Canada, Canadian insurance companies will be preferable. First of all they have established connections with clinics and hospitals. That means that most of the time you won't have to pay when you go see a doctor. Insurance company will be billed directly which is quite convenient and you don't have to wait for a long time to be reimbursed.

Plus you can go speak to a local representative if you have any questions which is also quite handy. Canadian insurers often times offer a more comprehensive coverage as well.

If you're waiting for your provincial coverage to kick in, take a look at the options available in terms of private coverage.

I was looking for an extension for dental and eye related medical to my MSP. Do you have or know of any options that I can take a look at? Since it is pretty expensive to visit a dentist office in Canada these days being uninsured.
