No idea on what stage your sponsorship application is at and which province you are in.

That will determine if you, being a PR, can have health insurance that covers your spouse.

Do not mix with the extended health that's covered by your work. It's very different and most extended insurance will only cover people who are already under provincial health.

You can get traveler insurance by private insurance provider if she's not covered. And most of those plans only cover emergency.

She needs to extend her status BEFORE her work permit expires.
And she will be staying as a visitor (extend her stay as visitor) since you haven't even apply for sponsorship yet of today.

She will lost her OHIP once she is not on her work permit.

When the sponsorship application reaches AOR, she can apply for OWP and once she received the OWP, and get a job that has more than 6 months, she can apply for OHIP
OR she can wait till the sponsorship application reaches AIP, then she can apply for OHIP.

Correction:
I am not familiar with this route. BUT if her PGWP is expiring in May, she may have time to apply for OWP when is close to her PGWP expiry (within 2 weeks).
But first, you need to get the sponsorship application in. And I heard that can be done before AOR.
If she can apply for OWP before her current PGWP expires, she may be able to retain her foreign worker status and remained covered by OHIP. But I am not 100% sure.

I have NO idea what you mean by JOINT health insurance.
You are a citizen and you live in Ontario. So you are covered by OHIP.

You need to first apply for the sponsorship and go from there.
She is still covered by OHIP until her PGWP is expired and she still have a little bit of time.

I think we got my hubby's health insurance via blue cross. MAKE sure that you are not getting those "extended health coverage" (e.g. dental, physio..etc) but the actual emergency coverage for visitor if you are thinking of getting private health coverage. (btw if she is expecting, none of the private will cover pre-existing condition)

OK. I found it:

Who’s eligible to apply for a work permit without an AOR
You can only apply for a work permit without an AOR if you meet both of the following criteria:

  • your work permit, study permit or temporary resident status will expire in 2 weeks or less and
  • you’ve applied for permanent residence under one of the following classes:
    • the spouse or common-law partner in Canada class (SCLPC) as a spouse or common-law partner
    • the family class as a spouse, common-law or conjugal partner (sponsored overseas)

Select Yes in the following link:
Do you have valid temporary resident status? (required)
Yes

Hello, did anyone recently apply for inland spousal sponsorship? I would like to know how many weeks it is taking to get AOR after submission. Your help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Other than paying for emergency coverage if necessary no point in paying for other coverage. More comprehensive packages have very high upfront costs and you’re better off paying cash in most cases especially given the timeframe when she may not qualify for OHIP. Would suggest advising your HR department when/if your spouse loses her OHIP coverage. They may require removing her from the policy and then adding her again. Looking back on your previous posts it seems like your spouse was applying for PR on her own because most family and friends are not aware you are married. Assume there is a good chance you may actually be having a ceremony in India which people will think is your actual marriage date. As I mentioned before not indicating you are married on things like social media, not posting pictures of your wedding, etc. can be problematic especially given you are applying for sponsorship right before PGWP expires. The fact that you were married 6+ months without sponsoring your spouse and she was trying to qualify for PR on her own is very unusual. Although your relationship may be genuine your profile could also raise concerns that this is a marriage for immigration purposes because people committing fraud often do very similar things.
