Health Insurance during Temp Work Permit

Hi all,

Is there a health insurance program that tailors to those that are working in Canada for 2 years? I would like to have insurance and allowed checkups without having to worry about healthcare...I think Canadians get their own government insurance.

1. With a work permit, depending on the province, you will be eligible for the Provincial medical plan for either the first day or the 3rd month.

You will be eligible for a Provincial health coverage in approximately 90 days in Ontario.

In the meantime, you may purchase a private insurance policy that will cover possible medical emergencies during the waiting period.

I am on PGWP and I have my OHIP card. My spouse is coming next month to Toronto on Spouse dependent work permit how can she get the OHIP card for herself?

I had to purchase one because my work permit expired and I lost the health insurance from Alberta the 1st of January and bought it here http://www.safevisit.ca/

Everything is done online and I'm paying 122 per month.

The good thing is that you can buy it for one month and renew it before the month ends.

I don't know if it's a good or bad insurance, but I hope I won't need it!

She will have to wait for 3 months standard. For that period buy private health insurance giving at least 50k coverage BEFORE her travel dates. It would max cost you a few hundred dollars.

I have been bitten by this, so don't take it lightly. One visit for just seeing the doctor in hospital emergency would cost you around 800 CAD if you don't have insurance.

Also, if you don't buy it before hand, every private insurance provider will put you on a waiting period before it is effective. Say first 10 days of 3 months you have it for. And if something happens (God forbidden) in those 10 days - it is not covered.

So buy UPFRONT insurance, meaning BEFORE her landing in Canada. Then she would be covered in flight too
