i will be landing in toronto in april as i will not be coved by canadian health cover for three months what should i do as i will be landing with wife and two kids

There are some companies that will allow you to purchase insurance for that period.

Also, you can still go to a medical clinic. But you would have to pay for the visit.

Hi All,

Has anyone purchased Medical Insurance after landing for the first three months ? Wonder what the rates are like ?

Mike.

In BC it was about $46/person/month. You pay for 6 months in advance.

After you've been here a while, it may change depending on your income.

Hi Thaiguy,

Thanks for the info. Any idea if they have something for 3 months because I am moving to Toronto ?

Mike

I know there are local companies that will do it. You can probably do a google search and find a few. I'm sorry I don't have any names to give you.

Also, since it's such a short period of time - less than 3 months - some people don't get insurance for that period. I didn't.

Thanks Thaiguy,

Do you think not buying insurance for the first three months in Toronto is advisable considering I have children ?

A day in the hospital $1200 +

PMM

while you traveling with kids you should buy health insurance even without kids still in my opinion people should buy insurance as anything can happen with living things and as PMM mentioned 1200$+ one day in hospital means suicide so dont forget to buy insurance ,Good luck

No. With children, I think you absolutely should buy insurance.

Its advisable you buy health insurance. Canada is comopletely another country from your country of origin, taking in consideration children adapting to new weather etc.

Thank you Thaiguy/PMM/Martha...

So the consensus is - I buy insurance, because of the children.
I am trying to locate an appropriate insurer someone who will give comprehensive. Guess it is important and unavoidable.

Thanks again.

Mike
