I have landed on 18th October, please advice can i apply for Health Card.

Yes, you can apply. Depending on the province, you may be covered right away or you may have to wait 3 months until you get your health card in the mail. You may have to prove somehow that you are living in the province. Google the health care of your province to find their website. They should have some instructions for you what to bring. You can also call them and ask.

Thanks Leon, i am in toronto and have been through the OHIP website they say that i need 3 documents from each list of documents , now i have problem in list B which is for proof of residence. Here they want any one document from rental agreement,utility bills,driving licensce, bank statement mailed to the address of residence and some more. My problem is that i am living in temporary accomodation and have no rent agreement further i have bank account but my statement will not arrive before first week of december , please advice can i use my sin card as an evidence of residence as this SIN card was mailed at my residence or any other letter mailed to me on my address.

no you cant use sin card,,,must be one of the documents it says....you will be covered,,,but you must pay upfront and wait to be paid back by ohip

You have to work on getting the documents you need to apply. Once you have them, you can apply.

in the list of required documents they mention the PR card itself. we live in Ontario, can we use the proof of landing and COPR instead of the card itself, as it can take up to 6 weeks to receive it?

Yes, no problem. I brought in my driver's license, passport and COPR and it was smooth sailing.

thank you for your reply. will it work if instead of driving license I submit telephone bills, bank account statements, TD bank credit card and a joint account in TD bank and a few letters that I receive to my name at the address I live too?

just one more question, - while making application to OHIP do I need to take photos with me or they take photos themselves? if I need to bring them with me, what size they are required to be?

They will take the photo there.

You can use a home phone bill for proof of residency. Here's the complete list of documents:

unfortunately a home phone bill is not in my name. can I use a cell phone bill instead?

Since the document list specifies that it must be a home phone bill I don't think you could.

It also mentions insurance or mailed bank statement. Do you have any insurance policy which your name has been added to? If not, do you have a Canadian bank account? If not, you could open one and ask them to mail you a statement ASAP and you will hopefully have it in time for right after landing.

will joint account work? I have a joint account in TD bank with my husband and I also have a debit account in TD bank too, but I haven't used it yet - just didn't have a chance to, though they sent statements to my name that equal zero.

I can't say for sure, but I would imagine either one of those would work. I saw in another thread that you had just landed, so try bringing both of those with your COPR and passport to apply for OHIP and I think you should be good to go.
